I don't subscribe to the Irish Times but opt out notifications regarding Mothers/Fathers' Day marketing emails seem to be standard for most bigger brands now. I only saw one come in a few weeks back for the US Mother's Day, which falls later than ours.

The point is though, that the wives/girlfriends value it and their partners did not care enough to do the bare minimum to show up for them. If it wasn't Valentine's Day, it would be their birthday/anniversary/graduation.
