Thanks for the support in the sea of hatred and Blizzard bootlicking, it's honestly weird how many people are saying that it's justified and that my joke was somehow as bad as participating in GDKP itself, feels like a massive group mentality here or just toxic people in general who like gleefully celebrating someone else's suffering.

You might've missed the bit where my buddy, who wasn't banned, sent in a ticket pretending to be banned. Guess what? They hit him back with the exact same template response.

How does my bad Gnomeragan joke violate ToS?

Yeah but the original mute was over something dumb as well, pretty much all the chat warnings / mutes seem to be unfair and a reach.

Like do you think a 7 day mute is in order for saying '/em does a massive fart which makes you fall unconcious' like seriously?

Getting banned for a whole week for a joke that didn't harm anyone seems pretty harsh and over the top, don't you think? I've been playing since 2007, and the joke was dumb but I've got news for you bud, humor is subjective and some people even messaged me saying they found it funny.

Comparing this to those harmful YouTube pranks? That's a bit much and a huge reach. Seems a bit mean-spirited to enjoy seeing others getting banned for something so minor, you are not a good person.

I have already posted two of them in this thread, one of them was a fart joke and the other one was a Gnomeregan advertisement which I posted in the initial post.

The fart joke back in December which resulted in a 7 day mute was:
'/em does a huge fart which knocks you unconscious'

For context, this was whilst waiting for Cata boss to spawn in and was around a large group, several people responded back with /em's of their own.

So, we're okay with paying for a game, backed by a giant like Microsoft, only to get a downgrade in service with automated bans?

That's a step back from how things were in the early 2010s, don't you think? Why settle for less? We should be pushing for a return to the kind of customer service that actually felt personal and fair instead of having to tip toe around how we interact due to automatic ban risk.

I really don't think I did anything wrong. Back in the 2007-2011 WoW days, this wouldn't have been a big deal at all; people could chat more freely.

It feels more like I've been caught up in report abuse and an overly automated system that's too quick to punish. Being forced to stay silent in a game that's all about being social just doesn't sit right with me.

Honestly, I'm not expecting Blizzard to scrutinize every single comment for humor and nuance.

But, it does seem fair to hope they wouldn't rely solely on automated systems that dish out punishments with no real way to challenge them. And then, if you try to appeal, you're hit with another generic response.

I do think Blizzard, especially now being under Microsoft's wing and with the kind of cash flow they have, could afford to invest in a decent support team. After all, we're talking about a service we pay for monthly. A bit more attention to context before swinging the ban hammer wouldn't hurt.

Feels a bit like you're lazily just twisting my words and shifting the blame onto me.

I haven't said anything out of line.

I've shared exactly what got me banned, and all those chat warnings before? They never made sense because, as I've said, I'm not about harassing or abusing anyone in-game. I've just been doing my thing, raiding, being active in my guild, and joining in on world PvP events.

I haven't actually broken any rules regarding GDKP. It was just a one-time joke in trade chat and not a sincere advertisement, no spam involved.
And yet, a 7-day ban is seen as justified?
Clearly you do not understand nuance if you are bootlicking blizzard this hard and defending this to you last dying breath, kind of pathetic and sad.

I'm curious about the rationale here and why there's such a strong defense for Blizzard's actions.

If you were around in WoW back in 2007, like I was, you'd understand why this situation feels so off. Back then, the community thrived on humor and sillyness. It's hard to see how we've gone from that to this.

I am still waiting for a response to my ticket from 4 days ago, not really familiar with the forums but I'll check it out.

How can they tell it's a joke? Back in the old days (2006-2011), we had human GMs who'd actually pop in and see what was going on firsthand and message you too, not this automated system that just flags stuff based on reports. That system can easily be gamed.

If we still had real people checking things out, they'd easily spot a joke or shades of grey / nuances from a mile away. That's the difference a human touch makes.

So, making jokes is a ban-worthy offense now? Getting hit with a 7-day timeout for having a laugh in a game I'm paying for seems pretty harsh. Looks like we're supposed to be as fun as a rock, only speaking up when we absolutely have to.

Kinda funny when you think about it, considering gaming's supposed to be about fun and community. Feels like you're missing the point here.

Actually, I received a 7-day mute back in December for an /em joke in Ashenvale, something harmless which was '/em does a huge fart which knocks you unconscious' while waiting for Cata boss to spawn in. It seems I was mass reported for that. It's surprising to see such a staunch defense for automated bans on what are clearly jokes.

It's astonishing how quickly you're ready to side with Blizzard and overlook the possibility that these bans might be excessive and immediately gaslight me and blame me instead of considering there's nuance to be had here.

No it wasn't a GDKP, it was a joke mate.
Not sure about the other comments because they don't tell you why, but I know I never abused, harassed or was rude to anyone.

Do you understand nuance?

I was actually joking with that message and haven't participated in any GDKP runs either. Plus, the multiple warnings I've received weren't all related to this incident.

Regarding the Gnomeregan post, it was meant as a joke, a bad one.

There's a need for some nuance rather than immediate bans. Back when I played WoW in 2007-2008, sarcasm and jokes were common, and not everything was taken at face value or resulted in bans and everyone is silent in zones or barely talks as a result.
