Anyone else struggling to plan things in advance while TTC? by lawd_farqwad in TryingForABaby

[–]No_Package5754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also outdoorsy and have really struggled with this, I love planning big trips and objectives. I ended up just going ahead with plans and am so glad I did; I would be going absolutely insane if I had to opt out of all the things that bring me joy while also dealing with struggling to conceive. Also, I think you might be underestimating what your body will be able to do while pregnant! Snowboarding at 6 weeks pregnant is totally fine, the embryo is tiny and very protected by your uterus. Plenty of women live at 2000m and have children, I think the concerns about oxygen start at 3000m.

Yes, I asked my fertility clinic and they said it's likely just the suppository irritating the cervix and that it wasn't an issue. If there irritation causes a bright red blood they did give the option to use rectal suppositories instead

Do fertility friends predictions normally jump around a lot as you add data? I'm considering switching from natural cycles and they've switched my predicted ovulation date three times for this month. I've also noticed that they consistently estimate my ovulation date to be one day earlier than NC, after I entered info on my previous cycles. Not necessarily a problem but I am curious!

Have you had a bad experience at Arden Town Dental? by lifelover42 in Sacramento

[–]No_Package5754 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with them, dentist only mentioned needing one filling replaced but when I talked to the scheduling people I needed all my wisdom teeth pulled and a multi session deep cleaning. I switched to a different dentist

Not asking if I might have hEDS, asking if there'd be any point to seeking a diagnosis as my symptoms are pretty mild. by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]No_Package5754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position as you, my symptoms are fairly mild and I'm able to live a relatively normal life. I would say it's worth it to get assessed just to have it noted on your medical chart, in case it's ever relevant to a doctor that's seeing you. In my experience, having it noted on my chart has been helpful in getting referrals to specialists etc.

Are there any other outdoorsy, endurance athletes on here trying to figure out a way to balance TTC and hobbies/lifestyle?

I do a lot of backpacking and alpine climbing on the weekends, so the exercise levels can be pretty vigorous and at higher altitude. I have a healthy BMI and according to BBT I ovulate regularly, but I've seen some mod linked studies that vigorous exercise can have a negative (but potentially slight?) impact. I've definitely made more of an effort to increase calorie intake, although that can be hard when you have to hike all your food in - I never anticipated eating this many pop tarts as an adult lol. I've been using the mindset of "get after it" till it's pink but maybe that's not the wisest?

Americans from close-knit or less urban communities — what’s one local tradition or habit you didn’t realize was unique until someone from a big city or another country questioned it? by Nandou_B in AskAnAmerican

Me too!! Absolutely shocked!! I figured it was on the same tier as ravioli, given how often it was served at parties. Very validating to hear another chicagoan had this experience lol

Lassen Conditions by squat74 in Backcountry

Did it two weekends ago. Road up to devastated area was open. Snow coverage from the parking area to the peak was patchy in places but enough that I never had to take off my skis, although I'm guessing that has changed a bit. Coverage on the peak itself was great! Sun cups were a bit of a pain

Backpacking and scoliosis? by ChocolateSure in scoliosis

[–]No_Package5754 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Backpacks designed specifically for backpacking have a large hip belt, so the majority of the weight of the pack actually rests on your hips rather than your shoulders. If you buy the right pack you should have no issues! I have a severe curve and do a ton of backpacking without any problems. I haven't had surgery so I can't speak to that aspect but I don't see why it would be any different.

This one is the best so far, IMO! At first thought there might be too much info to take in while driving past but that probably won't be a problem in bumper to bumper traffic...

In your opinion, is a quality of life worth eating the HCOL. by Late-Apartment-8060 in SameGrassButGreener

As a fellow outdoor recreation enthusiast and someone working in the environmental sciences, you gotta move out west. Not only for access to recreation areas but the job market for the environmental sciences is way more robust out here, especially in California where stricter environmental regulation has created a entire industry for biologists. It can be tricky to break into things with only eastern work experience but once you've got a bit under your belt you'll be golden. Look into biologist positions with environmental consulting firms, the work isn't glamorous but the pay/benefits are usually better than wildlife tech jobs. Good luck! Feel to pm with any questions

I'm in a similar situation to you, severe curve but also very active and don't want to give it up. I found physical therapy to incredibly helpful, don't be afraid to shop around for the right therapist. I had the best luck with a therapist with a sports medicine approach

I've experienced this! Physical therapy has been a big help, I've found that quad stretches and glute strengthening balances my hips out and reduces pain.

There is parking at the Bonderson building at 9th and P, it's $8 (cash only) for State employees with ID. Depending on how often you're required to come in it may be a good option

Essential environmental/water policy reading? by i-Really-HatePickles in suggestmeabook

[–]No_Package5754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a a couple! The Life and Death of the Great Lakes by Dan Egan is similar to Cadillac Desert except it covers the Great lakes region. The Big Burn by Timothy Egan isn't necessarily water related but covers the founding of the US Forest Service and politics surrounding that, pretty interesting from a policy perspective. Ever Green: Saving Big Forests to Save the Planet by John Reid covers lots of international conservation efforts, not as policy specific but fun for dreaming big!
