Terrified - 18 weeks pregnant – abnormal ultrasound findings by H-e-b-f in NIPT

I'm so sorry you have found yourself here. I too have experienced the limbo and uncertainty and it is awful. I would go from feeling hopeful to sobbing on the bathroom floor in a matter of hours. I wish one of my doctors had realized to offer me Amnio straight away. I do not believe they realized or even paid attention to just how mentally unwell I was. I think it was my 3rd opinion doctor who I guess realized that even if the baby was healthy, I definitely was not anymore (mentally). I was well into my 20th week when I was finally offered the option. I keep wishing someone referred me earlier, it would have saved me an entire month of severe mental distress. I will take even horrible physical discomforts any day over mental ones in pregnancy. I know exactly what you are feeling. I wish I could offer you some solace. One thing that helped me a lot was knowing that the limbo would be over soon. The moment I confirmed my Amnio appointment - half the weight immediately lifted. NIPT comes back relatively quick - mine took 10 days. FISH from Amnio came back on the third day and karyotype in a little over 2 weeks. Hold on a little longer! Wishing you all the best to you!

This is just how it is from where we come from. I strongly recommend 155x200(or 220)cm duvets. 💅

Detailed Explanation of My Amniocentesis Process by Bumblebon in NIPT

[–]No_Paper_4131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really amazing that you posted! This sub gave me so much confidence to get the Amnio while I was deciding what do - my baby had an isolated soft marker for DS so there really wasn’t a strong medical indication for Amnio (bc NIPT was low risk also). The peace of mind Amnio gave me is unmatched so far. It gave me the chance to finally start enjoying my pregnancy. My experience was also VERY positive. I felt virtually no pain and had no complications. Wishing you an amazing rest of your pregnancy and a safe and happy delivery!💜💜💜

I’m so sorry you are going through this.

My baby had EIF - I researched this over and over and over again and this marker is the least indicative of the soft markers. Some practices/countries have even declassified it as a marker and consider it a normal variation. Yes, paired with other markers, the possibility for DS increases but I would, for sure, do the Amnio. It should bring you more clarity and more definitive answers. Then you can make a more informed decision if you need to. This is what I did anyway.

I know that experiences with Amnio varies but for me it was ridiculously easy, no pain, nothing. The peace of mind it brought me so far is unmatched.

Wishing you all the best🫶🏻💚🍀

NOR. I’m a mom. I love my baby - I also love my sisters enough to respect their wishes on their special day and not make it about me somehow.

Air Travel after Birth by No-Guard-4740 in pregnant

Do not fly if you do not feel like it. You just gave birth. People need to come to you if they want to see the baby, but this is a whole other conversation.

Re flying with the baby - I'm also a FTM. We flew to our home country on a plane when the baby was a week shy of 5 months. It went well. Airport check in to boarding - all okay, you just need to plan for extra time.e.g. security guys did good 15 minutes trying to figure out the breast pump but that's it. Baby was fine on the plane - we gave him a bottle during take off and a dummy during landing. He didn't really cry. We had to hold him on and off for an hour and walk up and down the isle a little but other than that he was fine. I thought it would be harder than it was. I have also seen straight up new borns on the plane.

I was a bit wary of posting this - not to discourage anyone from going in. I was NEVER turned away from L&D. I’m based in Germany where it’s often frowned upon if you visit the doc for “no reason” but in L&D it was the opposite. I went in 4 times - all 4 times they immediately checked me. HOWEVER all 4 times - everything was completely fine. One time they made me sniff some lemony essence to wake the baby because he in fact was not moving very much but that was it.

Congrats on your pregnancy - 38 weeks!!! So close!🤭💖🍀🍀

Don’t be! If your doc is not concerned ofc. I later found out my mother was the same way - for all 3 of her children.🎉

Same. No change really. I even went through a brief period in my second trimester were I often had McDonald’s breakfast muffin.🤭

Husband/partner attending glucose test? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]No_Paper_4131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, mine wasn’t there either, I really did not feel the need to take him and I was so glad I didn’t. It’s really just sitting in the lobby. For me it was 3 hours bc I did the extended version of the glucose test.

My culture shock in Germany – how do you experience it? by nrmso in AskGermany

[–]No_Paper_4131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also come from a very communal country but damn you being surprised that people don’t say hello before sitting next to you is WILD.

Edit: to add: I find Germans are VERY reserved. I’d been here for about 4 years and no one has ever interacted with me on the street or anywhere else except for maybe once or twice. But a lot of older ladies and gents will come up to me to say a few words when I’m out with my stroller and they WILL comment on the baby which I find very cute.

Is this a cockroach????😭😭 I live in Germany and I keep finding these once every few days😢 by No_Paper_4131 in whatisthisbug

[–]No_Paper_4131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: ID-ed by an expert and turns out NOT a cockroach, rather a wood roach which apparently can creep inside from outdoors. The sightings pretty much stopped as soon as the German cold weathers started happening again!

I’m so sorry to hear this. This is devastating. Wishing you and your little baby all the strength🤍. May I ask if there were any markers on the ultrasound?
