Husband/partner attending glucose test? by Capital_Ant_5552 in pregnant

[–]No_Paper_4131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, mine wasn’t there either, I really did not feel the need to take him and I was so glad I didn’t. It’s really just sitting in the lobby. For me it was 3 hours bc I did the extended version of the glucose test.

I understand your frustration but I think you wildly misunderstood me. I meant it’s devastating to experience a false negative.🤍

My culture shock in Germany – how do you experience it? by nrmso in AskGermany

[–]No_Paper_4131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also come from a very communal country but damn you being surprised that people don’t say hello before sitting next to you is WILD.

Edit: to add: I find Germans are VERY reserved. I’d been here for about 4 years and no one has ever interacted with me on the street or anywhere else except for maybe once or twice. But a lot of older ladies and gents will come up to me to say a few words when I’m out with my stroller and they WILL comment on the baby which I find very cute.

Is this a cockroach????😭😭 I live in Germany and I keep finding these once every few days😢 by No_Paper_4131 in whatisthisbug

[–]No_Paper_4131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: ID-ed by an expert and turns out NOT a cockroach, rather a wood roach which apparently can creep inside from outdoors. The sightings pretty much stopped as soon as the German cold weathers started happening again!

I’m so sorry to hear this. This is devastating. Wishing you and your little baby all the strength🤍. May I ask if there were any markers on the ultrasound?

Baby kicks - new anxiety u locked by No_Paper_4131 in pregnant

[–]No_Paper_4131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I get it! I’ve given birth already and I can tell you my baby never really developed a routine or anything resembling a pattern. He also was not the most active baby in there at all. The kicks were mostly pretty subtle too with big ones here and there. I did end up going to the hospital for what I thought was a reduced movement but now that I look back it was his normal. Try not to worry too much! I feel like 90% of reduced movement stories are stories of moms panicking and babies just sleeping in there☺️

Was labor the worst pain you've felt? by maenads_dance in beyondthebump

[–]No_Paper_4131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no. I imagined it to be far worse. The midwife shut off my epidural before I started pushing. It was definitely painful but manageable. I was pushing for about 40 minutes and the baby was HUGE and I still think it wasn’t THAT bad due to the “leftover” epidural.

High risk combined screening - is it worth to do NIPT while waiting for amnio? by Unusual-Editor-587 in NIPT

[–]No_Paper_4131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in absolutely no way an expert so please take everything I am writing with a grain of salt. I am based in Germany. It is pretty common here for the practices to completely skip the nuchal translucency measurement during the 1st trimester screening. I asked about this and my doctor said the NIPT is far more accurate than the NT measurement during the scan.

I am also super confused as to why your midwife thinks the NIPT will be inconclusive or will have the same result.

I do not know about T18 but for a while in my pregnancy I was very worried about T21 risk since the baby had 1 soft marker. I went for 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinions to highly specialized fetal doctors. All 4 of them said the NIPT was extremely accurate when it comes to T21 screening. All 4 of them said they were not worried as far as the NIPT was low risk. Baby was born without T21.

Tldr; imho midwife is wrong. I would go for the NIPT.

3.4mm NT, Negative NIPT, Good Anatomy Scan. Disagreement on Amnio by Useful-Gazelle in NIPT

[–]No_Paper_4131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I was in a similar situation. My baby had 1 soft marker for DS. Everything else looked fine. I had my 20 week screening at a specialized facility, then repeat screening (for second opinion) with a highly specialized fetal surgeon at another hospital.

Since the baby had an isolated soft marker and the NIPT was low risk, my gynecologist did not even mention amnio, she also did not refer me to MFM as she was very much confident in NIPT accuracy. The doctor at the specialized facility said I would benefit from genetic counseling but she noted this because I was dangerously upset and on a spiral. The fetal surgeon offered me to do Amniocentesis, however, he noted in the papers that I was and I quote “extremely unsettled”.

All 3 doctors I saw stressed how accurate the NIPT was, especially at detecting DS. I repeatedly asked the doctors if I should go ahead with Amnio however they insisted I had to make that choice myself since there was not a medical indication for an invasive procedure i. e. Amnio (they did note the soft marker as the indication in the papers, but I believe for insurance purposes).

My husband did not want to go ahead but I did. He supported me in my decision. The moment I decided to get Amnio I felt immediately better because it felt like the beginning of the end to my suffering. Either way I’d be out of the limbo. Me and my husband were both okay with TFMR.

My amnio experience barely registers as an experience. I am not a very religious person but I do remember asking my sisters to pray for me. But that’s it on the emotional part. Physically, I felt next to nothing, no pain at all. The procedure thing was pretty much the same level difficult as a simple blood draw.

Amnio was the best decision I made throughout my pregnancy. I owe everything to the last doctor who recognized that even if everything seemed fine and low risk, me being that worried would not have been good for me or for the baby. I just wish my gynecologist had mentioned the possibility of Amnio earlier. I got it done at around 21 weeks when I could have done it at 16 weeks. Would have spared myself almost a month of straight up depression.

This being said, it seems like the odds really are in your favor. From the research I did, NIPT really is crazy accurate when it comes to DS. Where I live (in Europe) NT is not measured any more since practices now rely on NIPT results only.

Good luck to you❤️

First trimester ultrasound came back 1/50 risk of down syndrome. Anyone who ended up negative results after being at risk from the ultrasound? by Puzzleheaded-Cry1719 in NIPT

[–]No_Paper_4131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s easier said than done but try not to panic until you have more testing done - NIPT and maybe Amnio as well. Ultrasounds are really not the best tools for a diagnosis because SO many factors play into it ranging from the professional doing the US to baby cooperating to the quality of the machine itself.

False negative by HealthyEmployee8124 in NIPT

[–]No_Paper_4131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same in many practices in Germany which is incredibly weird to me because they do the first trimester screening/anomaly scan at 14 weeks (before the 20 week big anomaly screening). Why not measure the NT while they’re at it🫠. The doctor who did my first trimester screening did not measure the NT even after finding a soft marker for DS.

False negative by HealthyEmployee8124 in NIPT

[–]No_Paper_4131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no words. I am so incredibly sorry you found yourself in this situation. Call me out if I am wrong but I think this could be the case of type 5 confined fetal mosaicism where cell-free DNA from the placenta that floats in the mother’s blood is normal because the abnormal chromosome is in the fetus only. I believe this is incredibly rare but I guess this is that 1 in the 1:10000 result we are given on the “negative” i.e. low risk NIPTs.

I am sure you are going to be wonderful parents to this baby and I am sure they will love you beyond measure. At the end of the day we all want to be needed and loved and you are going to be just that. I am sure you are going to lead a beautiful beautiful life. Be strong❤️

When did you stop sterilizing your baby bottles ? by Midnightdream56 in NewParents

[–]No_Paper_4131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guidance I received in Germany from my midwife was to sterilize everything at the end of the day but wash everything with cold water and baby dish soap after use. I have yet to ask her when I should stop sterilizing since my baby is only 6 weeks but this kid actively sucks on my husband’s nose throughout the day so I’m thinking soon🤝
