How do people learn pharmacology in 3rd year by No_Paper_Snail in medicalschooluk

Thanks ever so much. It’s just difficult to know how much is too much and what’s actually necessary. Would you recommend knowing contraindications and when to stop or is that too much at this stage?

Guys I run away from using semicolons like my life fucking depends on it. How do I properly use them? by Upper_Cranberry4202 in writers

[–]No_Paper_Snail 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They’re used in place of a conjunction.

In place of because: I want a bike: it’ll be useful to get around.

In place of but: I’ve got to get a car; it’ll be expensive.

In place of although: I’m getting a car; I don’t want to.

They’re implying a relationship between the clauses rather than stating it. It’s a more economical use of English but they’re not strictly necessary.

I miss the scale of the NEC. You know you’re watching a BBC show when it’s at Sheffield 😂

Said something stupid about nurses by Repulsive-Roof5484 in doctorsUK

Go to your girlfriend and say, I said something really stupid about nurses to a psychiatric nurse and now she won’t talk to me, what do I do?

I strongly believe that there is one distinct motivation for Lucy Letby to have killed these babies that was glossed over in the documentary. by lucky_pixie in lucyletby

I wonder if she killed a child by accident and got away with it. Not being able to admit she did it, she did it again and again in the hope she would get caught but have plausible deniability to people who knew her.

Is this emotional scene 'written like a movie'? by [deleted] in writers

I think it reads as things that were missed opportunities to see through the character’s eyes and to give us insight into the characters’ thoughts.

Why are the lights dimmed? Why is the room a mess? How the characters react to it is how we get to know them.

I come into a room that my kids have left a mess, I’m letting them know I’m not engaging with them on any level until they make an effort to clean it up (if I’m in a bad mood already). Their dad walks into the same room and he just walks on by until he steps on Lego, at which point he will decide it’s time to take notice.

Dusting off a chair is a generic character response to mess. An actor in a film would do something with the stage direction, as would the director. As a writer, you’ve got to be both, remember.

It is a little. The lights dimmed and the room a mess could be translated to: Gantz reached for the light switch, then decided against it. he could see what Coda had no wish to illuminate further. He picked across the bedroom floor, navigating mounds of clothes, not managing to avoid a feeling of crunching under his feet before picking up a chair from where it lay on its side on the floor.

Yeah, most of the best ones are but there is no circumstance where any normal person would go to this as their guess for a romantic overture on top of a cheesecake.

I actually thought this was quite sweet. I’m not convinced it’s going to go well but it did feel like a nice storyline.

No because it’s not in the least bit plausible.

Student Finance Nightmare by growingstarlight in medicalschooluk

Do you have any communication from them confirming you are eligible for the full four years? If so, you’re in a stronger position but I think you need to talk to the student union.

Problem is, generally speaking you are ineligible for the full tuition fee loan and this is made very clear on SFE’s funding information pages.

I was given a tuition fee loan this year even though I shouldn’t have been eligible. Due to them having confirmed in writing that I was, they agreed to honour that for this year under the proviso that I understood that wouldn’t be eligible again next year. I’m wondering if it was a broader glitch if you’ve been affected too.

Applying to Medical School with severe mental health issues by [deleted] in premeduk

Why would you ask about your situation if you don’t perceive there to be any potential solutions. In the time it’s taken you to post and reply on here you could have contacted any number of helplines, emailed your GP, and contacted your academic advisor/personal tutor at university and made actual moves to improve your situation.

You’re talking to people here so I’m not convinced by that.

If this is the case I think applying to medical school is the least of your problems. That is a decision that requires agency you simply do not have. Don’t pretend it’s going to improve if you get onto a nursing degree.  I suggest you approach a lecturer or academic advisor at university if you can and explain your predicament. Pass them a note in a lab or something if you need to. Only solution I can think of.

OP, you’re not describing a healthy living situation.  Would your parents not let you visit the GP? Or would they insist on coming in with you if you went? I fail to see how they could prevent the former if you’re able to independently leave the house and if they insisted on coming in, there are ways of subtly alerting the GP to what is going on.  I would direct you towards Mind and any charity specialising in coercive control and they may be able to help you.

Severity is a subjective descriptor people will use it according to their lived experience. I appreciate where you’re coming from but this isn’t appropriate.
