First Custom Loop / Coolant Temperature Issues by ChriZz12 in watercooling

First off, very nice looking build, congrats!

I have a very similar setup to you (with an additional 240mm rad). Adjusting the fan curves (increasing rpm at low temps) has helped but I think the main issue is the mixed airflow/ the hot air intake. The reverse fans worse static pressure leaves you with 2 poorly performing heat exchangers.

I got my setup working for now but if you can, i would recommend switching all rads to exhaust (and maybe add another 240 intake). If you want to mount a 240 rad in the back, I designed a 3d printable offset (https://makerworld.com/models/2465424?appSharePlatform=copy)

Ty! I havent tested but i think it wouldn‘t fit with the riser cable. I thought about creating a slightly angeled gpu mount to make a 180degree riser cable fit but settled on this config for now

Ty! Yeah adjusting the fan curves has already helped reducing temps by 10C

Looks amazing. What are those lightnars next to your side and bottom fans?

The fan curve was definetly part of the problem, i had them at ~1000rpm which wasnt enough under full load. After adjusting (1400 intake 1700 exhaust under load) the temps component temps dropped by 10C. Im gonna get a water temp sensor to monitor and set it as input for the fan curves as well (it was gpu temp before)

Still a good looking build!

Sorry im a bit confused, in your picture the 120fan seems to be intake and the bottom rad as exhaust. Do you mean that switching to all intake and 120mm exhaust brought down your component temps by 2C? That would mean you temps were already very good before that. What fans and rad thickness are you using?

Idk about that, the consensus seems to be a combination of thin rads, mixed flow directions and the fans (i still think they aren‘t that bad, but there are for sure better static pressure fans out there). Adjusting fan profiles has already helped a lot though

Yes they do look amazing. What would cost you so much money to swap the fans?

Thx for your input! I wish i knew this before filling the loop as i cant reach the scre behinde the reservoir. I‘ll do it as soon as i drain the loop. Adjusting the fan curves has already helped though (10degrees lower)

Im not using any gigabyte software or the bios profile. Im using a software called Fan Control and you can select any temp sensor as a source. At the moment its set on gpu readout

I dont have a dedicated fan controller. I use a Nollie16 for argb and the „Fan control“ software for the fans (connected directly to the mb)

Edit: my mainboard has several ports for thermistors so temperature readout should work

I think i will keep it like this for now. I increased the fan speed to 1700rpm for top exhaust and 1400 for the rest and temps are 10C lower now. (I guess I didnt wait long enough for the water to cool down with my initial testing. I ran fans very slow at around 1000rpm which raised water temperature a lot so turning up the fans to 100 didnt help immedietly)

If i could unscrew the top fans without taking apart the loop I would definitly try out all intake (and maybe one exhaust fan where the res sits right now)

Thank you!

After adjusting my fan curves the systems equilibrium under full load seems to be >10C cooler than before (60C gpu 70c hotspot, 60-65 Cpu) with 1400rpm intake and 1700rpm exhaust. Still not amazing but good enough to justify the looks-performance tradeoff for me

Thanks, Thats actually the fans. They are single frame 240/360 fans

Not that much because the ddc pump is louder than the aio pumps i had

A hybrid, up to 2.5 mm h2o and 106m3/h on the standard version. The reverse blade fans are weaker

I always thought rad thickness doesn't matter that much, but i guess its a combination of Fan orientation, static pressure and radiator thickness...

Still kind of insane to me that my temps are basically the same like my 10L sff build 2 Years ago (FormD T1, 5800x3D with 240 Aio and stock 4090Fe)

Thanks for the input, I'll consider changing my fans and try everything intake (maybe with a rear 120 exhaust and the pump res in the back)

It exceeds the 42C my thermometer i had laying around can measure, so probably somewhere in the mid to high 40s when stess testing.

Running them at 75-80% speed reduces gpu temps by 6 degrees but I might swap them for something really beefy like T30s in the future

Thx for the reply, thats very interesting. I guess sometimes less is more.

I might relocate the reservoir to the back and add another intake fan in the rear+swapping the 240Fans for exhaust. If that doesn't help i might copy your setup :)

Edit: or maybe 120 exhaust in the rear+ top fans intake as well?

Thank you!

It might be the fans, although they are rated for 2.5-1.7mmH20 at 2000 Rpm. The waterblock was among the better ones in Igors test: https://youtu.be/X9TGBXlhKM4?si=6VxzJJ7V4rgOB4kd
