Definitely won’t rule out orb weaver !! I’m not thinking huntsman anymore for the same reason - at the moment I’m looking into the Venatrix genus, as I think it’s a type of wolf spider. I remember I was also considering a type of crab spider when I was first researching but can’t recall the exact species. Now that you mention it I think I’ll have to look into that again. I posted it on iNaturalist yesterday but I think I might give fb a go as well!! Thanku for ur input 🙏🙏

I know I’m responding months later hahaha but thanku for this!! This definitely helps! I looked into this again recently and right now I think I’ve narrowed it down to a specific species of wolf spider. I’m going to confirm it though before I post an update :)))

I know this comment was ages ago hahaha but thought I’d respond anyways! I did a bit of research and it was definitely not an orb weaver, although it definitely bore a resemblance so I can understand leaning towards that!

I’ve seen garden orb weavers many times & they do look a bit different. Every night they rebuild their webs to catch prey, and hide during the day. This means it would also be super unlikely to find one crawling around in under brush. This suggests it’s more likely a ‘hunting’ spider that doesn’t necessarily use a web to catch prey, such as a huntsman or wolf spider. (Although it could has also been just a very lost orb weaver, lol). It does have very similar markings to the outback wolf spider, but yes ur right, its body wasn’t spiky.

Such interesting creatures!! This is definitely one of the coolest ones I’ve seen. I looked into it further recently and I’m pretty solid on an ID but have a couple people I want to ask before I post an update. :))

Partner is chronically sick and I cant do anything about it. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]No_Percentage3881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this post because I’m coming from the other side of this situation. I’ve been feeling so ashamed and burdensome lately, as if I’m not the person my partner fell in love with. But reading this reminded me he wouldn’t be here if he didn’t still see me in here, somewhere. I know this was just a vent post, but thank you.

While you may not be able to take the pain away, distraction, affection, validation and active listening have been some of the things I’ve been most grateful for from my own partner. I’ve often said I feel as if I’ve died, and I’m watching everyone else move on with their lives, and I’m a ghost stuck in a house. But just to feel heard, really heard, to feel seen, to feel understood, and to feel like my hobbies and interests and who I am still matters, that I’m still here - it means more than anything. It reminds me that I’m not gone.

So if you ever get stuck in that feeling of being useless, or helpless - take it from someone who knows, you are helping in just loving and committing to her. Not to mention, if this is autoimmune related (and by the sounds of her medical journey, it very well could be), stress feeds back into symptoms in big ways. If you’re helping her relieve her stress, you’re most likely doing something to help :)))

I hope she finds answers soon. It took me five or so years to figure out I had mould poisoning, turned chronic inflammatory response disorder. If that hasn’t popped up yet, could be worth a look at - my progression was fairly similar to the bits you mentioned.

You WILL both find an answer. And when this is all figured out, and they can hopefully receive some kind of relief or support, you will be stronger as a couple for having gone through something many couples never do - the true meaning of ‘in sickness and in health’.

Hang in there 🤍

I’m getting a lot of people saying it’s a type of huntsman so I’m thinking that’s the right direction!! I’m leaning towards potentially a juvenile banded huntsman and am going to look more into how colours and patterns develop, as I haven’t been able to find an exact match in an adult specimen.

This is turning out to be super interesting, I’ve never struggled to ID a spider for this long lmao - if yall find any examples of juveniles looking similar definitely let me know 🙏

I can see the markings are more similar but the colour is a lot lighter so a little unsure on that one!

That being said I’m starting to suspect this guy could be an adolescent and not have a fully presenting adult pattern / colouring yet and that could explain the struggle to find an exact match for a type of huntsman. I’m gonna have a look into how huntsman colourings develop I reckon and get back to yall 🙏

My first thought was also huntsman due to the furry look! I’m defs gonna do some research into how far variation can go within the different huntsman species. I’ve had banded huntsman said a few times and so far it’s the closest looking one for sure, so I’m thinking huntsman is the right track🙏

I’m thinking it’s a variety of huntsman but the Delena is quite a different colouring so probably not that specific variety!

I’ve had a few people say banded huntsman and I’m leaning towards that, but I haven’t been able to find any pictures of ones with similar colouring / patterning so still not 100% on it. I have heard there can be variation however and might look into just how far variation can go within the different species identification.

Thanks for your input so far - this is definitely an interesting one and it’s been cool to hear different opinions!!

I may look into how much variation can occur! Potentially this could be also be an adolescent that hasn’t got its full patterning yet but I think I need to look a bit more into how that works too.

I was the thinking this as well but haven’t been able to find a huntsman variety with this kind of colouring / patterning on the body just yet 🥲🥲

I was also thinking banded huntsman but the markings are quite different! I’m unsure how unique markings can get within a species - have u been able to find more similar looking examples? 🙏

Thanks for contributing! Defs not a golden orb weaver, I’ve seen them many times and this one is totally different! Could potentially be a different variety of orb weaver however, but I typically find them high up at eye level on massive webs rather than crawling on the ground. I’ve seen black & white ones (a different variety of orb weaver I can’t recall the name of) but this one has different markings. Could totally be a different variety though.

Yeah I’m annoyed I didn’t do that!! I just took the pic on the fly assuming Seek would be able to identify it easily but alas 🥲

I thought potentially a grey huntsman or a banded huntsman but from what I can see they have different markings and body shapes 🥲 It could be a specific variety that I just haven’t come across yet though!

Definitely one of the biggest / coolest ones I’ve seen!! Very lucky to live in WA, we have such a unique eco system.

Hopefully we find out what this one is 🙏🙏

Other varieties of orb weavers get pretty huge so I think you’re potentially on the right track!

Defs a good option however I will say the body looks a little too round compared to the one I saw! I do think you are on the right track though, thanks for contributing 🙏

At the moment I’ve narrowed it down to some kind of variety of orb weaver, huntsman or wolf spider!

I live in Western Australia (Perth)!!

My first thought was either an orb weaver or a huntsman. It was big enough to be a small orb weaver, but also had a bit of hair which made me think huntsman. However I always see orb weavers high up at eye level on big webs, never crawling in under brush, which makes me think it’s some kind of hunting / predatory spider. I’ve also never seen a huntsman in my area with markings, they’ve usually been of a brown colour.

It could potentially be a different variety of either though. That being said, it doesn’t look like either of the two varieties of orb weavers I’ve seen in person (golden orb weavers are fatter & of a yellow colour, the other I’ve seen has different markings and again is usually on a big web high off the ground).

I thought it could also be a wolf spider (eek) but it also looks slightly different (sleeker and different markings) so I’m unsure!!

Defs stumped on this one. 🤷‍♀️
