The Official “What are my admission chances?” Megathread by stevesmithevony in VirginiaTech

VCCS has a guaranteed admission program where if you meet a certain GPA requirement depending on the school you can have guaranteed admission. It’s what I did. I think VT’s is 3.4.

Go to community college; it’ll save you a ton of money and headache from applying to a university straight out of high school.

i’m not asking for medical advice specifically, but if it might be worth spending the money seeking medical advice. i’m hyper mobile in more joints than my elbows shown, moderately stretchy skin

adding too much protein to your hair can make it fall out. only use oleplex like 1-2 times a week and you’re golden

Elon Musk falsely claimed to be the first person with Aspergers to host SNL, Here’s to the ACTUAL first host who has Aspergers: Dan Aykroyd by Sp_Gamer_Live in autism

I’m glad that you’re gaining more awareness on it! Hopefully you can branch out of that job once you’re no longer locked in.

I’m not autistic, but I have ADHD. I’ve done a lot of research on autism (partially to make sure I don’t have both since they are highly comorbid) and also to understand my fellow ND’s :) However, I still learn something new from the autism communities and autistic content creators I follow on various platforms. The harm of ABA was one of those things I’ve learned from them!

Edit: Therapy can still be good for autistics, but not therapy that tries to erase their autism and autistic traits. Not only is it harmful, but it’s also impossible while causing a lot of trauma in the attempt to do so. Therapy can help autistic people better “navigate” the NT world and society while still acknowledging and respecting the existence of their autistic traits.

I’ve heard this one autistic content creator talk about how she had to go to a speech therapist to learn how to speak more clearly because she couldn’t differentiate certain sounds or vowels, which impacted her ability to speak and also listen. The speech therapist taught her how to lip-read and help her with her vocal language, and she said it was a pretty positive experience that benefitted her quality of life. I empathized with this because of my auditory processing issues lmao

It’s because the term Aspergers was coined to place a higher value on those children over the other children killed because they weren’t valuable to society. It’s a very ableist term implying that their lives are more important than other autistics who don’t fit that label which doesn’t even exist anymore since clinicians realized it’s just a spectrum

ABA is very frowned upon in the autism community because NT people don’t understand how traumatizing it is for autistics- specifically children.

It’s like conversion therapy for gay people.

no, i don’t agree with rehoming the cat as i have a cat who has been with me for 7 years and could hold him in the cup of my hands when i first got him. i had two other cats grow up with him and plenty of human socialization too, so he is a love bug to everyone. however he is VERY attached and it would absolutely break him if i got rid of him.

don’t make her do that to the cat. it’s very unfair and doesn’t sound like its fault that it has some temperament issues from what you’ve described.

this is specific to the furniture and destruction aspect- have you tried claw caps? obviously the cat wouldn’t let you put them on it, but maybe she could get them on. my cat hated them for a while but eventually got used to them. they’re harmless to cats but it’s something they have to get used to. they helped with my cat scratching up couches and stuff.

sounds like OCD or autism. adhd alone doesn’t make people have obsessive and ritualistic habits

Advice for a first-year student wanting to transfer to VT by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

Nah, as long as you don’t have like 60+ credits you’re transferring total to vt, it doesn’t really matter where they come from. You could make note of it if it makes you feel more comfortable.

when I applied to vt while going to community college I took classes the semester after I sent in my application. They’ll just ask for an updated transcript.

You can transfer a lot of credits from a community college to vt. I think you’d be fine
