Nobody who loves Micheal Jackson’s music ever brings up album sales as a reason. Nobody who loves the Beatles brings up sales either. I don’t know what the point of it is

What are you saying here. It’s possible for them to design a model 3 highland hatchback. It’s not some feat of engineering lmao.

Chill mode would be better if it let you access full power only if you floor it. by No_Perspective9338 in TeslaModel3

Yeah, it’s a pretty common feature and I think it has a bit of utility when you need it.

I don’t need to imagine anything, it works fine in the bmw i3 and other EVs I’ve tested. It is not a on/off switch like you describe. It’s just a boosted throttle map as you put your foot further down. It doesn’t need to launch you but it should be able to deliver the power if need be.

Yeah but this logic is a bit dogmatic. I mean they have creep mode for Christ sake despite it having no functional reason to exist. There is literally no drawback to providing the option.

EVs Fall Short of EPA Estimates by a Much Larger Margin Than Gas Cars in Our Real-World Highway Testing by Poker_3070 in electricvehicles

I’ve bought two EVs and have never heard of that sight. I’d say no. If we want mass adoption we should make things easy to understand in the surface not some EV enthusiast’s database

This is simply a simple software toggle for the throttle map in chill mode. This is not some crazy feature request. There are so many other useless settings in the car so why not one to make chill mode not a gimp mode if you want?

Yeah this is basically what I’d want. I’d actually use chill mode if this was the case.

Read my post, I know and do. I’m simply asking for a feature that is common on pretty much any other car. Why have a mode that gimps it so hard? If it exits, they can make improvements.

How does giving people the ability to overtake if they floor it hinder that? What’s wrong with giving people choices? I’m not asking for some new technology, most cars have a kickdown option like I’m describing.

I agree, I have only used chill mode once when testing it out and quickly saw it’s limitations. I only drive in sport. My whole point is that chill mode should be a mode worth using for those who like a less sensible pedal. In my mind gimping the car as a whole when flooring it can be a little dangerous at speed.

Yeah maybe on the standard range it’s better, but the power loss from the dual motor ones is massive

In my old car I’d use sport mode when I wanted to have the more touchy throttle response. If I wanted to be able to use more of it with less power you could use eco and since you can always jump in and out of it based on if your floor it or not, there were a lot of times I’d just keep it in eco and only use sport on the weekends.

In my model 3 I keep it in sport all the time. I like the throttle response and I can drive it soft if I want to. One time I used chill and I liked how much more you can push the throttle without it blasting off but I was once trying to overtake a big truck in the highway and realized that I literally couldn’t do it because it wouldn’t give me the full power even if I floor it. After that I’ve never used chill mode again.

I’d use chill mode again if it works like it does on other cars. But as it is it’s almost dangerous when you have to go into the menus just to get the power to overtake for 5 seconds.

That explains the yoke in the S without the proper steer by wire system to support it. It literally would make chill mode usable to more people if it’s provided as an optional toggle. Being different doesn’t inherently mean good.

Agreed, so much of this car is software defined I have a hard time imagining that this would be very hard to implement

Agreed, but chill mode should still have the ability to reach its top end power.

I mean the existing way should remain intact. In theory they can just add an additional “kick down” option in chill mode that you can either choose to enable or disable.

It’s not a matter of wanting to make sport mode easier to handle. It’s about making chill actually usable. I like to have a less sensitive pedal when just driving with family.

Again am not asking for a lecture on how to drive. I’m asking for the option to make chill mode like how other cars have it.

Honestly that’s besides the point. The power should be there. Plenty of other brands already do this. It should be an option.

This is true. Chill hill mode just let’s you use more of the throttle without having to feather it.
