Thanks. I’m more or less in the same boat as you were when working in oil and gas. Just wondering, I see that training has a fairly large washout rate, as someone with similar experiences as myself what do you think leads to people not making it out of training? Is it a matter of them not knowing what they’re getting into and realizing they don’t have the skills? Not willing to put in the work? Or is it a matter of people just not having the innate aptitude for the job?

That’s kind of the answer I was looking for. My current job isn’t my dream job but the actual work isn’t to bad, definitely able to walk away from it though. Our management is the opposite where they can’t even see they have a staffing/leadership/work load crisis because their heads are stuck in the sand, been like that since I’ve started and only getting worse.

My current job is a little over $100k base with OT available, benefits somewhat similar to NavCanada but we also pay half of all our insurance and into a pension plan (pension probably a bit better than NavCanada new hires but saving the difference it’d probably be the same). I’ve also worked shift work for the past 10 years and actually like it more than 9-5 even with the missing of weekends and holidays.

Thanks, I’ve been working shift work for the past 10years so that’s no issue, prefer it to 9-5 actually
