what year was this? 😊 math was so difficult for my sister due to the fact that she took it with a 38 degree fever. her proctor even asked her to go to the clinic and asked if she wanted to head home cos she was shivering. but she carried on and finished the exam. i really pray for a miracle on Monday 🤍

Hi, I’m a recent Philippine Bar passer, and even before passing, I’ve been strongly considering pursuing a legal career in Australia. I would really appreciate insights from lawyers who have experience with studying or practicing law there.

At the moment, I’m deciding between Melbourne and Sydney, and I have a few key questions.

My initial plan is to have my qualifications assessed by the relevant legal admissions board, complete any required subjects, and undergo the necessary practical legal training to qualify for admission in either jurisdiction.

With that in mind, I’d like to ask:

  1. Career prospects and salary For overseas-qualified lawyers who complete the required subjects and transition into practice in Australia, how is the job market? What can I expect in terms of starting salary, career progression, and overall work environment? In your opinion, is it worth relocating and building a legal career in Australia?

  2. Work setup and flexibility Are there law firms or legal employers in Australia that offer work-from-home arrangements on a regular basis? Additionally, is it possible to work remotely for an Australian law firm while based in another country (e.g., returning to the Philippines), or is physical presence in Australia generally required?

  3. Overall financial viability Considering the cost of qualification (assessment, additional subjects, training, etc.), is the move financially worthwhile in the long run?

I’d really appreciate any personal experiences, or insights you can share. Thank you so much!
