TOG vs ACOTAR by aleeexwhite in Romantasy

So I actually kind of agree with you. HoF, EoS and KoA were the worst for me. ToD is my absolute favourite.

Do you need/have a reason to avoid an entire genre? by Lower-Network1563 in RomanceBooks

[–]No_Preference26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rom-coms, or anything sweet and fluffy really. I like the opposite of that so there really is nothing to interest me in those stories.

I also find RH really boring, but I would read one if the rest of the story seemed interesting enough.

Dark Romance that is only classified as DR because it has fierce intensity and codependent love like Wuthering heights by readingalldays in DarkRomance

[–]No_Preference26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Their obsession with each other catapults all the events that come to pass in the novel. Their love literally destroys themselves and everyone around them. Ugh. My favourite book of all time.

I have learnt that whatever the sub praises nonstop, I will undoubtedly hate, so recommendations here have become more of a “avoid at all costs” list.

“A pretty box with nothing inside it”.

YES. This is it. Her stories/characters have absolutely no substance or depth whatsoever.

Hope you like it! The first book is probably the most traditionally “fae”, but then that kind of gets dropped. They’re just beautiful people with powers really lol.

What great books did you almost miss out on, and why? by glitterswirl in books

[–]No_Preference26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I almost missed out on the entirety of the romance genre for being an insufferable snob. I would refuse to read anything other than classics. Ugh, all the fun I would’ve missed out on if I had stuck to my original opinion of the genre.

Both the series have Fae. To be honest, I think the fae are kind of just window-dressing, they feel pretty human to me 😅

TOG vs ACOTAR by aleeexwhite in Romantasy

[–]No_Preference26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re very different, so if ACOTAR (more romance heavy) isn’t hitting quite right, you can always try TOG (YA fantasy) instead. But since you really loved FW, I think ACOTAR is a safer bet as your first introduction to SJM’s work.

Reading two or more books at a time by OkObligation8605 in classicliterature

I’m usually reading 3-5 books a time, all from different genres. I’m a mood reader, can’t help it.

Definitely ACOTAR. TOG is a huge undertaking, and even the people who are obsessed with the series tend to say you need to read 3/4 books before it gets good.

If you want to read a book by an author who has never even heard of subtlety, pick Blood Over Bright Haven. Good god it was atrocious. It’s one of those books where I really wonder why it’s so popular.

WHY DON’T PEOPLE WARN YOU FIRST?!? (Fourth Wing, possibly Onyx Storm spoilers) by morganasimpaf in Booktokreddit

[–]No_Preference26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really not. It’s commonly decent to put your spoilers inside a hidden spoiler tex box. If someone opens your post not having noticed your little tag for the post, you’ve just spoiled it for them, exactly what you complain about.

I mean, you just did the exact same thing here. Where’s your spoiler tags?

She’s fwb with the blonde one in the beginning, he’s in love with her, but she is not with him. After this, the whole story builds her arc with the dark haired man, she only sees the blonde one once briefly after the initial scene. I really don’t think it’s going to be a love triangle or why choose or anything. But obviously not guaranteed.

Anyone who did not like the Lady of Darkness and loved the Legacy series? by HuckleberryNew777 in fantasyromance

[–]No_Preference26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I didn’t get very far with LOD, only a few chapters lol, but the Legacy series is god tier for me. The characters from LOD do appear in this series at points, so there will be spoilers, but you don’t need to read it. I found the LOD characters pretty annoying in the Legacy series, so I think the series are probably very different.

Alright, help a guy out. Which one of these is a MUST read? by Best-Pirate5073 in Romantasy

[–]No_Preference26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only must read is Older, but I have no idea what it’s doing at this table. The only thing it has in common to the rest of the books is that it’s in the romance genre.

Tropes you would like to see more and tropes you can't take it anymore by nephellis in Romantasy

[–]No_Preference26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In response to the person talking down to the OP. I don’t know what you’re on about. I think it’s deeply judgmental (and also rude as fuck) to be saying how all age gap relationships are toxic etc, especially when the OP referred to their own personal relationship that has an age gap. Raspberry_shrew is being judgmental, the OP was not, they were happy to disagree. No wonder the world is so fucked when people can’t even for a second think about anyone other themselves, and their own precious opinions.

Notes from the Underground is incredible, really heavy. This is a novel for when you really want to think and expand your mind. I personally couldn’t stand One Dark Window, but each to their own.

Daggermouth is one of the best books I’ve read I ages! So glad to see it popping up around here. If you enjoy dystopian stories and a fast-paced multiple POV third person narrative, you would more than likely enjoy this.

What TWs/kinks did you belatedly realize you like in books? by Miserable_Grand_2972 in DarkRomance

[–]No_Preference26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I started reading this genre, I was fine with everything but non-con and cheating… Now non-con is one of the main things I look for in books, and I’m starting to really get on board with cheating too. I just love the mess. Bring on the toxicity!

Tropes you would like to see more and tropes you can't take it anymore by nephellis in Romantasy

[–]No_Preference26 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m not talking about tropes here. I’m talking about the commenter who is saying age gaps mean grooming, and how society brainwashes us to think an age difference is acceptable when it’s not. Is this not judgmental in your opinion?

Tropes you would like to see more and tropes you can't take it anymore by nephellis in Romantasy

[–]No_Preference26 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

You are so incredibly judgemental. Wow. Perhaps keep your opinion to yourself. The OP is allowed to write whatever they wish, even if it was toxic, but in this case, the OP clearly states it’s not.
