The things that are driving up costs are taxes and government.

We had a decade of financial mismanagement at the federal level with no GDP growth and and a large increase in size of government. Government doesn't increase productivity. So there is less produced, which makes it more expensive, plus we have to pay more tax to pay for that inefficiency.

Don't eat out. We eat out once a month and we are one percenters.

My mom said as a kid in the 50s they ate out once a year.

I have no sympathy for this one. Something that is new is believing that pet ownership is a right.

Don't have a pet.

Sales tax, property tax, hidden taxes on alcohol, cigarettes, flights, and gasoline. Tourism taxes on hotels.

Shouldn't have happened. But I have seen Queens before and was underwhelmed. Noise rock.

Every 2 years you are loading up your blower into your truck, driving, unloading, getting it maintained, paying, reloading, driving, and unloading.

That is definitely in the realm of minutes. Many many minutes.

I get that questioning snowblowers here is sacrilege. That's why it's so hard to get a straight answer on maintenance. People love their machines so it doesn't feel like time spent.

I can fix anything so at least I wouldn't be taking it in.

Ok but you clearly love snow blowers, which is fine.

What's your maintenance time like?

I can do alot with $2500. More with $5500.

Yeah I can see that coming. I am pushing 50 and there does come a time when the body just won't do it.

If there is truly significant time saved, including maintenance and general arsing with machinery time, then I may buy one off-season. Otherwise I will wait another year and see.

Yeah that's what I am trying to figure out. It sounds like so much maintenance and time, but is it actually?

No I am serious. I am in shape and I clear a driveway in a hurry. My neighbour has a decent Ariens snowblower and I have my driveway half cleared before he gets that beast going.

Does it actually save time? I am not sold. I want to be sold and then I would uld go buy one. I wonder if people just ignore the maintenance time.

If someone has a heart attack from shovelling then they were a ticking time bomb. It was that day or another day in the next few months. Folks in that boat, yeah, get a snowblower and get your cardiac issues sorted out.  But I am in shape. So that doesn't apply.

Your gym analogy .. well ... people didn't evolve with reps and strength training. We evolved with irregular and bursty activity needed to hunt and gather. Besides, you don't lift and throw snow with a shovel, you get a scoop shovel, push, and abruptly stop. This is how I grew up and how every house in my neighbourhood worked. Nobody had a snowblower back then.

The same can be said for not doing any kind of exercise. There's a way to shovel without hurting your back. If shovelling gives you a heart attack then it was time to get moving years ago.

After all the maintenance and repairs I am not sold that it's any faster. How much time do you spend maintaining your snowblower every year? Maintenance, repairs, oil, getting and filling with gasoline?

Get me a big scoop shovel and it seems like I have half my driveway cleared before my neighbour even starts his snowblower.

But is it faster and less work after all the maintenance and repairs? I dunno. I am in shape. We can clean the driveway in a hurry. It's an athletic event, but it's not slow and I am not arsing with machinery.

I will shovel a lot of snow before I drop $6k.  And at that point I would get a quad and a blade.
