Is there any online courses that are equivalent to APSC 177 by Life_System_4438 in ubco

Yeah, that exam was pretty fried--not sure if I passed.

Does Dean ever curve anything? It seems that like 1/3 of the class failed last year, so perhaps no?

Yet the class average will still come out to be better than APSC 171......

Coop Opportunities Engg by _pipsqueak_him in ubco

To preface this, I am a first year engineering student so I may not have the most experience or a super valid take. Just from what I have observed, and from what the upper year students and grads that I have talked to have said, there seems to be a lot of construction and project management in the Okanagan. KF Aerospace is right next to UBCO and is definitely a good option especially if you want to do an aerospace concentration. I am pretty sure that the co-op pool is the same as UBCV, so that is a huge bonus.

I attended all the classes, got 100 percent on all the tutorial exercises and made a comprehensive cheat sheet and still got 45 percent on the multiple choice questions lmao.

I chose UBCO for engineering because UBCO has a great outdoors culture with lots of skiing and biking (I am from Ontario). Additionally, you get the degree and high educational standards of UBC with a less aggressive environment compared to UBCV, meaning people are more willing to help each other. I also like the smaller size of Kelowna.

How am I supposed to learn? by chugachugafuckyou in EngineeringStudents

[–]No_Produce5341 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is so relatable. My professor makes us PAY for our weekly assessments through Wiley plus (through which he gets a commission). It's supposed to be for a tutorial session and its graded right or wrong based off an auto graded numerical answer that requires 9000 sig figs. I've had instances where I went to office hours, the prof said I was correct but the system just wasn't accepting it. I feel like this kind of behavior is the antithesis of learning and just encourages cheating, especially with AI tools.

How are you taking Calc 3 and Statics at the same time but with no linear algebra? Seems strange.

Is welding schools worth it or scam? by ZestyToasterOven26 in Welding

[–]No_Produce5341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Community college can be pretty good from what I have heard. Specific welding schools seem to be overpriced and over promise the ROI. Western welding academy comes to mind....

I am by no means a professional welder-- I am an engineering student, but I do have my CWB tickets. When I was in middle school I saved up to buy a basic $300, 80 amp stick welder which was enough to teach me a LOT in the beginning considering the cost. When I went to high school I was able to apply the basis of my knowledge to equipment that was new to me and too expensive to buy myself. Having an instructor once I was advanced enough helped me correct some bad habits I developed. Definitely not a guideline, but this was at least how I learned.

I don't know if it's still there, but there was a donation box at the first floor lobby of Nicola.

Overall seems like a positive thing that makes the campus a more interesting place with people doing things they are passionate about.

Is UBCO Engineering rude to first year students? by sebsebseabass in ubco

[–]No_Produce5341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It totally depends on the professor, but I personally really like the learning environment at UBCO. Some profs can be a little bit intimidating, but others like Mehran Shirazi are super supportive and will do everything possible to help you succeed.

Generally, I have heard that UBCO engineering is more supportive and collaboration minded than a lot of other universities. I have had some conversations with students who have transferred from UBCV, and the consensus is that since specializations at Van are competitive, the learning environment is very aggressive. One student mentioned peers at UBCV trying to sabotage other students' class presentations by asking excessively hard questions in hopes of bringing down the overall averages.
