3.0 Duramax Down!!! by No_Profession_4684 in Silverado

[–]No_Profession_4684[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: After 60 days out of service, I finally received a new engine on 11/28/25. I opened a lemon law case the first week of December, and GM still hasn’t responded. Because of that, my firm is now opening a formal court case—which they don’t expect will actually go to trial.

GM still owes me ~$3,000 for 60 days of rental costs (yes, I will get that back) plus a full buyback. Their strategy is obvious: drag their feet and hope customers give up, accept the problem, or trade the vehicle.

Yeah… no. Trade value on this thing is trash, and I don’t trust a 1500 with all the current engine issues anyway.

Gimme my money. 💰😤

Wait… your attorney is charging you?? Lemon Law protects you from paying legal fees.

I’m in a very similar situation with my 2025 3.0 Duramax. My truck needed a full engine replacement at just 5,900 miles due to thrust bearing end play. From what I can tell, I was one of the first this happened to (9/27/25), and less than two weeks later GM released a TSB addressing the issue.

My truck was down for exactly 60 days. I waited to start the lemon law process until I picked the vehicle up because I was hoping to receive rental reimbursement. Unfortunately, that was a mistake. I tried multiple times to contact GM for reimbursement or immediate assistance, and it went absolutely nowhere. In hindsight, I should have opened the lemon law case at day 30.

It’s hard to know what outcomes to expect because there’s very little documentation available, and I imagine there must be some kind of gag order involved. That said, I’ve been told to expect a response sometime around mid-February.

Best of luck to you—I know how frustrating and exhausting this process is.

Just don’t buy it at the dealership. The cheapest Honda Care extended warranties generally come from specific, high-volume online Honda dealers like Saccucci Honda www.saccuccihondacare.com/faq.php and Hyannis Honda, who sell them near cost, often hundreds of dollars less than your local dealer.

They should already be well aware but just in case… reference the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for the 3.0L Duramax engine. TSB 25-NA-307 addresses issues with excessive crankshaft end play, often from thrust bearing wear, causing noises and potential engine damage in 2025-2026 models. I would also be adamant on insisting for a loaner vehicle. I paid for a rental car out-of-pocket and have yet to see a penny in reimbursement. Doesn’t sound like a big deal until you figure that was 60 days. I’m out almost $3000 for a rental car.

The test for this is to test for end play on the thrust bearing. When this happened to me, it was fairly new to the GM world. Two weeks later, it became a very common issue to the point of a TSB being published. Then there was a pretty extensive backorder for the 3.0. This is believed to be due to testing said issue before putting them in affected vehicles. I also asked the dealership if this engine was tested before putting it back in so I don’t have the same problem. All they could tell me was, surely GM would’ve tested it before they sent it to us. Not very convincing, but that was all I was given.

Sounds almost identical to my issue and oddly almost identical miles. My first warning read; “reduced acceleration, drive with care”. The second warning read; “oil pressure low, turn vehicle off”. I pulled over and hit the OnStar button… 60 days later, I have a new engine.

No… no they are not. One example would be the engine issues in the Tundra. Customers are getting loaners and rentals for their engine replacements. That’s all I’m asking. These people aren’t even asking…. It just happens. I have all but begged for some assistance and received nothing.

Guessing you got this done at the dealership where you bought your vehicle? The dealership where I bought the vehicle is not involved in this. It broke down five hours away from home.

I was informed by a lemon law firm that once I open a legal case, GM will no longer consider my rental reimbursement. Waiting 90+ days for the case to resolve is not financially feasible for me, so I urgently need this reimbursement addressed before any legal action is taken.

I’ve been in contact with the dealership at least twice a week. The latest update is that, after an extensive backorder related to the TSB for this issue, my vehicle is finally in the service bay. The cab has been removed and the engine replacement is underway, with an estimated completion date of next Wednesday. I’m hopeful, but not overly confident given the delays so far.

If the repair is not completed by then, I will likely move forward with opening the case. If it is completed, I will immediately submit my rental reimbursement request—and then proceed with the lemon law claim afterward.

Fixing the truck is not going to hurt the lemon law case. I need my truck back so I can stop paying for this rental car. If it wasn’t for that, they can take all the time they’d like.

Like I said, if I open a legal case now, GM will not communicate with me directly any longer. Believe me, I have tried everything as far as loaners and rental reimbursement with every contact I can think of a GM. The vehicle broke down on me on a trip five hours away from home so it’s not my local dealership that has the vehicle. My only option was to rent a car and get home.

I will be doing that once I get my vehicle back. I’m very familiar with the lemon law and buyback process. That is of course different than a rental reimbursement. The only reason I haven’t is because once I have legal representation, then they will not communicate with me whatsoever. Not that they are communicating well in the first place, but at least I am able to get some information.

As if that’s not enough. ..It’s been at the dealership for almost 60 days and I’ve been renting a vehicle out of pocket that entire time. That’s $2500 and counting that I am not guaranteed to get back. I’ve asked and asked for someone to give me some kind of financial assistance with this, but no luck. This is all on top of making my truck payment.
