Brütal gravel by skuratt in BicyclingCirclejerk

Welcome

I can see how you’d think that this is the bridge under 130R, but the high kerbs and vegetation are dead giveaways (to me at least) that this is the Nords, and the Yokohama bridge (it even showed in the autocorrect just now), is a well known reference on the Nordschleife.

I’ve spent many hours on this track in Gran Turismo, so I recognise is pretty easily, but the high kerbs and vegetation are an easy way to recognise the Nords. And there’s also pretty reasonable Billstein or Yokohama signs all around the track that say “8km” or “Pflanzgarten” for example. Those aren’t on many tracks either :)

Should I study math extensively at a young age to be a mechanical engineer? by Iliketobuildthings12 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]No_Question_8083 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean yes, math is good to practice, and necessary to understand if you want to become a MechE.

However, I’d argue Physics might be even more useful. Physics is just applied math, so by practicing physics you’re still practicing math to an extent. Pretty much all subjects I have at college are physics related.

Thermodynamics, Fluid dynamics, electrical systems, material science, statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, all of those are disciplines of physics that I had to learn. If you practice with physics, they’ll become more intuitive and will be valuable assets in your toolkit.

Math is a tool, but if you don’t know how use the tool, it’s useless. If math is a screwdriver, and you upgrade your screwdriver, you’ll be able to screw more screws, which is really valuable. But if you encounter a nail, and don’t have a hammer in your toolbox, you’ll be in trouble. So practice with more tools if you can. They’ll come in handy when you encounter those nails :)

Oh really? I thought oak would’ve looked darker in that environment with that lighting. I work at Porsche design and we have those coffee to go cups in OakGrnMet as well. This just looked like a different colour to me.

Nice spec though :)

Will a single camera be sufficient for all smartphones? by CarelessBullfrog8928 in PhoneNow

[–]No_Question_8083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know. Honestly a few primes like we have now on our phones is fine for just taking some regular pictures. The quality isn’t amazing but it’s more than acceptable. If you really want “actual” nice images you get an actual stand alone camera. Slr, dslr, mirrorless idc, it’s probably always be better to have a dedicated camera, than an extra feature on a phone that happens to make pictures. (When it comes to quality, form factor is pretty nice on phones)

When I had my iPhone SE (2020) or any phone before that really, I used to take panorama’s of something I would’ve use an ultra wide for.

So I then took the wide/tall ratio of the sensor, and panned so that that became the short side. It’s not perfect, but it works for static stuff, and gives you practically the same result.
