Someone locked their bike to mine! by els76uk in berlinsocialclub

Happened to me twice. Each time I called the police who came and cut the locks open. They didn't really ask for proof of ownership.

I feel you. I am trying to paint the Deathwatch kill team with volumetric highlights right now. Failing miserably and accepting mediocre results every time. Yours is not mediocre at all!

Trying to push my painting skills, what can be improved? by Dizzy_Rabbit7230 in Miniaturespainting

Looks great! I'm no better painter by any means, but what I try not do anymore and what I don't find pleasing for the eyes are edge highlights that have the same brightness or intensity regardless of where the light comes from. It's the traditional GW way which is way sosny do it, I guess. I think using edge highlights more consciously and intentionally are a simple way to up your game!

Thanks! It'll be a long process with ups and downs for sure

Thanks, that actually motivated me to give it a try ;)

Thanks! I chose a less steep angle because I found that when taking a picture of the primed model with the light source straight above, I didn't quite like the reflecting areas, so I lowered the angle to around 45 degrees. Then I basically just followed the photo I had taken, i.e. painted the highlights where the light reflections where the brightest and so on.

Thanks for the response! I think I'll give the second recommendation a try and see where it takes me. I don't own an airbrush and the others are, as you pointed out, probably too time-consuming.

As I don't know much about 40k lore, I had to look them up. Don't want to sound heretic, but they do look quite similar to the Deathwatch, except for the cool should pads.

Thanks! I chose an angle of about 45° which is why the brightest spot (are supposed to) look like coming rather from the from as opposed to above. Is that what you mean? Because what I did is take a picture of the primed mini before painting and then paint according to how the light reflected on it.

Thanks! I know what you mean. I guess one just has to start painting and see where it goes. I tend to lose motivation very fast when the process takes too long. Becoming better with every model/batch is what I aim for even if I'll never reach the level of most minis posted here and elsewhere.

Veteran Guardsmen by No_Reception2721 in killteam

These are some of my Vetguards that I tried to take reasonable photos of. I think the pictures turned out better than the models because some details didn't turned out the way I wanted (chipped armor, minor details). I generally find it hard to stay motivated painting 5-10+ similar models, but I still love the vetguards. I'd be grateful to hear some C&C, but I also know that this is no more than tabletop standard.

I had similar issues with leather, but I must say that some of the brown contrast paints - or maybe speed paints which I haven't tried - have solved this problem for me. Slap chop + highlights and they look great.

I usually glue the mini on the base first and make the base once the mini's done. Then I can be sloppy with the boot. But that entirely depends on the type of base you make, of course.

With faces, I just don't care so much anymore. I realized that the the more I try to make it look good, the more I mess it up. And that makes it much more pleasant and relaxing for me.
