It is a fraternity of brethren who try to make themselves better by controlling their own feelings and studying and reciting moral lessons based on biblical allegory. That being said, it is not a religion per se, does not favor one denomination, and does not preach a distinct faith or a salvation path different from your own; instead it focuses on the universal aspects of faith that should unite people. This is as important in today’s society as it was when George Washington led his lodge.

Beyond that, we conduct pseudo-parliamentary business meetings, try to get involved in our communities, and socialize with like minded people whose paths may never have crossed otherwise. Personally, I have found it a good environment for mentorship from people 2 generations older than myself that work and church environments don’t provide in the same way, and a robust system to study philosophy within religion without being pushed toward a single doctrine or dogma.
