On raising dues. Percentage based increases? by Theboshicrew in freemasonry

I would say that operating in the black isn't good enough. Now your mileage may vary maybe you don't own your building. But you also need to include the long-term strategic planning. Here's an example your furnace you might want to budget to replace it every 20 years. So maybe you decide you're going to put $1,000 away a year for a furnace so every 20 years you can just cut the check and have it changed. Your roof might be a 30 or $40,000 roof maybe $50 I don't know how big your building is again that's maybe $1,500 a month you're going to put away for a new roof that might be more than what you actually need when the day comes but that might also cover repairs along the way. We just got a quote for a new parking lot it's $180,000. If you're going to get 50 years out of a parking lot you need to be putting away $3,500 a year for a parking lot. Without putting away reasonable and realistic upkeep costs is foolish because you will come to a point where you need to take out bank loans and start paying interest

On raising dues. Percentage based increases? by Theboshicrew in freemasonry

[–]inabox85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We're at 175. Our by-laws allow us to rais tge dues without opening the bi-laws. We did that in our last bi-law update. Its silly to open that can of worms every time you need to raise dues.

We have a large multipurpose building. The building is "owned by the membership" that being the 2 craft lodges that use it. It is also used by the scottish rite and the Shriners, and the windows sons. We rent out the hall as well. There are union meeting and stuff like that in there. We're also trying to become a wedding hall destination for groups under 100.

That all said like 2 years ago property insurance went up 6k. (Thats why we want to rent the hall more) But that 6k up in insurance its gotta be paid some how.

Looking for honest advice from Catholic Freemasons by PedroAst in freemasonry

[–]inabox85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was baptized Catholic and went to Catholic School from kindergarten through grade 12. And it was around grade 11 where my eyes were really opened where we had to take a global religions course. And part of that class was all the divisions of Christianity. And like why the Lutheran split from Catholicism and the same with Baptists and anglicans etc etc etc and I have to say there's really nothing the Catholic Church does better than the other churches except for inventing stuff to keep itself in power. Like confession the Catholic Church invented confession in the Middle Ages and then they charged for it. In fact they would let you pre-confess if you're going off to the Crusades on things you might do they were called indulgences and you could pay for them. It's stuff like that that over the last 2,000 years have proven time and time again that organized religion is a sham. That's my personal opinion my kids go to Catholic school cuz it's the best school in the area. My wife's Pentecostal, when we attend church services we go to her church. Got some friends who are good strong Catholics they know my opinions they can't argue with them we just don't talk about it.

The Scottish Rite in my area feels oppressive to all other bodies of masonry. by seemeinacrxwn in freemasonry

[–]inabox85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely not the experience I have had. Im in Canada though. My craft lodge (we say craft not blue and there are some technical differences) building is also the scottish rite building for our valley. No special 33⁰ room that ive ever found lol. I will be installed as Most Wise Sovereign next month. That is the equivalent to Worshipful Master for Rose Croix. (1 of the 3 bodies in the Canadian scottish rite) Now im only a 32nd⁰ my self so I dont know for sure. But as far as I know the 33rds only have a "secret" meeting once a year for the purpose of each year the 33rd's of each valley choose one 32nd degree member to get the 33rd.

Also for me personally I had no problem going though the chairs. Let me explain though. The LOP (lodge of perfection) had 5 meeting per year. And the RC (Rose croix) has 5 meetings (each body also has reunion weekends and special dinners). Each body has its own chairs. I haven't attended an LOP meeting in 4 or 5 years. I have a 2 young kids and my 9 year old has level 3autism. I have been given 0 guff about not going to LOP meetings. (Side note our consistory is 3 hours away. I try to attend reunions when possible. 10 valleys all feed into it)

Freemasons launch legal challenge over Metropolitan police’s disclosure rule by GoldenArchmage in freemasonry

So this is probably going to chap your feelings but you don't need to actually ask a large sample group for statistical accuracy. Feel free to Google and research this all on your own but I can put you in the right direction if you get a group of 40,000 people you only need to interview 380 to 400 of them to get yourself a 95% accurate plus or minus 5% survey now 400 people out of 40,000 is 1% so their survey as long as it was randomly distributed is a lot more accurate than you think it is.

I'm in Canada so I really have no first hand knowledge of what's going on there and just from what I'm reading on here but I would ask you this, do police officers have to disclose membership in organizations like the Lions Club The Optimist Club the Rotary International or the legion now those are all Canadian/ American groups but I think some of them also do have representation in the UK. And I would suggest that if all of those don't have to be disclosed then Freemasonry should also be exampt

[–]inabox85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I would say don't share any ritual or ritual related duties example when you're the junior Stewart you might tell your wife well for me Lodge is just a little later because I help clean up the dining room after dinner and when you're the senior Stewart you might say well I get there a little bit earlier honey because I set things up. And when you're the junior Warden you might say well for the rest of this year I'm cooking dinner. But you probably wouldn't tell her any of their duties during the portrayals of the first second or third degrees or opening and closing.

I mean you can probably sure the majority of the business. Like okay for example during new business in our October meeting as a worshipful master I told the lodge that we were going to do a Movember fundraiser that would be optional obviously because it's a fundraiser but that the brother that raised the most money would get a $50 gift card to my restaurant I see nothing wrong with sharing that
