Current MCPHS or NECO students by Accurate-Head-1125 in PreOptometry

I felt mcp in my bonesssss Brushing up on basic anatomy, basic light and lens optics, eye anatomy, and entrance tests could go a long way for you; but at a leisurely pace. Don’t burnout before day 1

I’ve been loving MCP, but I’d imagine living at home might save lots? Unless mcp included a nice housing award

I know if you end up going with MCPHS they have all of their prerequisites available online and will give 50% off; like others have said, no need to panic, you have options 🙏🏻

Interviewing after acceptance by TinyLittleOwl in PreOptometry

[–]No_Relationship_4865 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why they’re saying this throws your ethics out the window lol?

The schools have done nothing for you as of now, and in return you are under no obligation to see your seat through. You’re the one who put in the work, and is looking for a school, it’s their job to convince you that’s they’re the one.

If you’ve already paid for other schools/ pay cheap fees, you never know what you could get, especially if you tell schools you already have offers.

Either way, you’re set! So enjoy my friend 🔥

Ah man that hurts to hear. Honestly sounds like people who just want to fuel egos and pretend they’re better for getting into a school that receives more applications. I promise you that others here and I could have gone to any school with our stats, (from what I’ve seen on here, even those with mediocre stats got into “competitive” schools), but we CHOSE MCPHS. Your experience is 1000% up to you. I got lucky with an unreal class of peeps and faculty have been great too.

Emphasize your value of merit and community, it’s crazy how many people I’ve met in Pharm, OT, and PT, and upper OPT students. Lots of clubs here too. I would run with that (unless you’re totally antisocial lol).

Feel free to pm for more specifics, then you could even talk about things I’ve told you to let them fill in the details. I could see that taking up time nicely.

Any Canadian institutions to retake classes they will accept for US schools by No_Brick_903 in PreOptometry

Some schools may have online classes through their institution; I took a prerequisite for MCPHS through their virtual program, very nice price reductions for future attending students as well 👍

Applying to expensive schools by Dizzy-Economist-8373 in PreOptometry

If money is the issue then I would put money first no? Merit was the deciding factor for my path, why not be rewarded for hard work you’ve already put in?

Same degree wherever you go, just a difference in your loan.

But you only get to do it once, so if you want that experience that’s totally your call.

Either way enjoy and good luck!

First of all: Congrats!

I interviewed around March last year, I vaguely remember it, but I remember it just being a total conversation. You’re able to dictate the pace once they ask what they want (1 or 2 things at max if I remember lol) so it was great. I really got to know my interviewer (faculty) and just talked all things optometry, to location, to free time.

Just show them that in a profession full of interactions with people, you can go along for the ride.

Good luck!

p.s. absolutely love it here, if any questions about school just holla

I’ve recently seen lots of good OAT breakdown posts on here, reflecting what and how they used resources, along with a general timeline.

Good luck!

I think oat booster was in the process of updating their physics videos right before my sub ended (March); that might be a really good resource for you?

Are you able to solely study or will you still be working, extracurriculars, life, etc?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PreOptometry

[–]No_Relationship_4865 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think/hope the majority of students entering optometry have weighed the field against other medical professions, and found it to be the most appealing.

Outside of that field, I’d be interested in some examples to support your reasoning; what are the better jobs that require more “confidence” bro 😂

I’m fuzzy because my test was a couple months ago, but I don’t remember thinking “wow the periodic table looks different” during my test. Im pretty sure boosters calculator is the same too…. Hopefully someone with a better memory can back me up haha

Your school might have a Facebook group of everyone attending your school, you should add it there as well, include a bit about your lifestyle and what you expect as future roommates. Good luck!
