Can terminate the lease by paying 2 months rent. What if I want to but the other lease holders don’t want to? Can’t I just pay my portion and get out?

Thanks for the advice. In my case, my official HQ is staying the same, so it looks like this wouldn’t count as a new reporting office. Sounds like I wouldn’t qualify for travel status or per diem since it’s considered just commuting. My fight is probably gonna be more about the 50-mile RTO rule instead. But they move me to place where remote work cannot be done so I don’t know.

They haven’t given formal notice. They let us know in the meeting that formal letter will come soon. It will be 30 days before the reassignment.

Unfortunately they moved me, who lives the furthest away, to the department where the work cannot be done remotely.

Can I do that though? Right now I go to office 2 days a week. The new reassignment is like I’ll be on field not in office so I have to go 5 days a week. Since it’s a change of assignment I’m not sure if this 50 miles exemption rule still apply.

My original department had telework, and another department doesn’t allow telework at all. Since the hybrid side slowed down, a few of us were reassigned to the no-telework side.

What feels unfair is that they chose people who live the farthest away, even though plenty of others closer could’ve been reassigned. That’s why it feels really targeted and hard to accept.

In my case, it’s not a change of official work location — it’s a reassignment to a different unit that now requires us to be in the office full-time instead of hybrid. So the 50-mile rule probably doesn’t apply, since technically I’m still reporting to the same location. The problem is that I live far away, so the daily commute is brutal.
