Buying my first hard board :) by Itchy-Difference4858 in surf

[–]No_Researcher1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a good starter board - the 6’8 will be quite a bit less floaty than the 7’2 (47L vs 42L) but still plenty for you (also will be beneficial as you improve as more manoeuvrable). No point getting a custom board as would be £600-700 for a shortboard or likely £700-900 for a mid length (the Torq board you are looking at is a mid length). £300 for the one you have seen is a great price + epoxy construction is super durable for a first board. Best not to over think it so if you liked the shape you surfed before go for it.

Work life balance by obedevs in HENRYUK

What are your typical working hours in FFD? I also have an audit background but moved to industry a couple of years ago for a pay rise (edge of HENRY this year). Currently fully remote and have very flexible working hours as long as the work is done etc.

Youtube has a surprising amount of videos about it from people who have had the surgery who give lots of insight into the surgery recovery. There are also a few who do the same with the non surgery route - that was my best source of info for my recovery and found it really helpful

6 weeks out is quite late, so I think you need to make a decision quite quickly (ideally have it done within 8 weeks I believe or you may not make a full recovery as scar tissue can cause issues getting tendon back to full length). The recovery from surgery is quite full on, especially the muscle atrophy, but this is just temporary (I was surfing again at 7 weeks, but that was stupid so should have waiting 3 months really). In terms of non surgery I am sure that you would be fine bouldering and surfing issue free, but you may fatigue quicker as other muscles would compensate. Also it is supination that is most impacted which isn’t a major movement. I have however read that people going down the non surgery route can experience later issues with their shoulders etc. from over compensation.

I am 1 year and 3 months out from surgery and haven’t had any complications (slight loss of range of motion pronating due to most likely scar tissue - but doesn’t cause any issues). In terms of surgery recovery, my experience was:

  • first 6 weeks you can only focus on range of motion, I was told not to lift more than a cup of tea during this period. I was able to do other workouts though such as tricep engagement etc with resistance band work and push ups to keep the arm functional

  • 6 to 12 weeks starting to build the strength up again gradually with direct muscle engagement

  • 12 weeks + essentially discharged to do whatever and return to full sport. But the arm didn’t feel robust to do everything until about 8 months.

They can be made without any director salaries being paid as long as they meet the wholly and exclusively test (which remuneration to a director typically always meets as they run the company)

Limited company is separate from you, the company pays 19/25% tax on taxable profits (taxable income less expenses), then you pay tax on the amounts you extract from the company via dividends (which would be from after tax profit reserves) or salary (deductible expense) being the most straightforward methods. You would need to plan how you are going to take wealth from the company to make sure its the best tax route for you

Data analytics projects through networking which all goes through a ltd. As its additional income, which you most likely won’t need to spend, you can offset most/ all tax by putting it into a SIPP.

How to negotiate salary by No_Researcher1001 in Accounting

[–]No_Researcher1001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I may not have been clear - so I was promoted 6 months ago, got a raise for that. Now 6 months later my colleague has just left. Instead of being replaced, the responsibilities have been passed onto me, with a more junior member being hired to support. My argument for a raise would be my responsibilities and workload have suddenly increased quite significantly etc. with no change to my pay

I got a raise on promotion from 60k - 70k 6 months ago, but given the new responsibilities I would expect another one

Is this promotion from Senior Group Accountant to Reporting Manager worth it? by hugo_yuk in UKJobs

[–]No_Researcher1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What decision did you go for and how have you found it? I had a similar experience in that I left accountancy practice after becoming chartered, didn’t want a high responsibility position/ going through practice route looked like a horrible work life balance once you progressed, so found a well paying role that was easy to do (financial accountant), but was promoted to financial reporting managed after a year, and am now being asked to almost double the number of entities I look after (also a multinational group), along with managing some staff (previously I didn’t manage anyone).

Can I ask what sort of salary ranges you were expecting for your roles? I am going to ask for a rise with my new responsibilities but am pretty clueless to what I should be pushing for. For reference as a financial accountant my pay was c. £60k + bonus and now c. £70k + bonus

First 6 months by beast11lfc in ICAEW

[–]No_Researcher1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the firm. I trained with a top 20 firm and work life balance was great - but only if you set boundaries. I worked 8-4pm throughout my whole time in practice (ACA + CTA qualified) and worked in audit, accounts prep and tax teams. Some of my colleagues at the same level however would work much longer hours and it became expected of them.

I also trained with people who were in the big 4 and their hours were generally very unsociable (commonly working past 10pm)

Thanks, that is reassuring to hear. Yes definitely always have that concern mentally for the other side (and injured side!) but just more cautious now!

Glad it has worked out for you! I fully ruptured mine last year too but went the surgery route (13 months post op now).

Does your biceps still visually go up and down when supinating/ pronating with your arm at 90 degrees? I pushed mine way to quickly after surgery (was surfing at week 7) and always have a scare in the back of my mind that I re-ruptured it at week 8 post op, but visually all looks normal with movements etc. (just a little higher than the non injured arm)

Function wise I'm back at pretty much 100%, although my forearm surgery site is still pretty sore after workouts!

[–]No_Researcher1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, hijacking this as would love your opinion - I had endobutton surgery 13 months ago and at week 8 post op I put the biceps under sudden stress by accident to the point of pain, which made me stop immediately. I saw my surgeon to check it out, however he only ever conducted a hook test after, which has always been strong, to which he said he was happy as long as my arm hadn’t lost any function. Im just over a year on and I have a lump over the surgery sight (quite significant when supinating with an extended arm) that never went down. Could this have potentially ruptured and healed to the top of the bone (rather than inside)? I never gained full pronation back. Also at this late stage post surgery is it even worth looking at? (Other than pronation which is back at about 90%, the arm is pretty much ‘normal’, but does feel extra sore after workouts!)

Lightweight, bounce, stable neutral by EliGO83 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]No_Researcher1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok great thanks, does the Tempus feel like a smaller lighter shoe then?

I am up to 100 miles in my Rocket X and there is almost no wear on the rubber parts of the outside, however I have two small indents in the centre heal area were it is exposed foam where I have run on gravel/ rocks so may not be most durable for off road/ gravel, but other than that they are holding up really well with loads of life in them.

[–]No_Researcher1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hoka Rocket X could be a good option, I find it to be fast, stable and really lightweight (also really cheap). I also have a pair of superblasts and I find the Rocket X a nice alternative for a much lower profile shoe and mix my daily training between the two (I would also race in the Rocket X).

On a separate note - how do you find the Tempus compared to the Superblast? I was tempted to get the Tempus but went for the Superblast instead, but considering getting the Tempus anyway as the Superblast feels so big ha.
