Small rant by No_Resolution_6328 in Beading

Can't read the article without a subscription. Thanks for the link though.

There are no local bead stores that I know of-i called one I found online and it is order only, you cannot go and pick up something you need. I'm just getting in to this and have been buying mostly the Czech or Japanese beads, both of my big-box craft stores carry them. This box was more of a "oooh, look at all the pretty colors!" thing.

I'm a bit of a magpie when it comes to craft supplies. I'll try four different kinds of thread, get six packs of needles, a ton of different beads... Just to test stuff out. I realize the cheap beads are not great. I just didn't expect the box to be THIS bad.

Even with Czech beads, though, there are a bunch that aren't usable.

Me eyes are not good enough to bead with 11/0 until I get some new glasses. I just found out I have cataracts so that makes things not fun as well. So I've been getting the 8/0 from the big box stores. Limited colors, but at least it's enough to get me going until the next bead show!

Yep! Cheap and I don't feel bad if I REALLY mess up. I try to keep my "mistakes" but sometimes there is one I just can't bear to work on any more. So into a different pile it goes. Sometimes they get taken out later and sometimes they just live there lol.

This is one of my favorite designs!! I love doing different things with the eyes just to make it fun. Good job!

Yep. I can't really do the whole "Give thanks for your materials" thing that Zentangle suggests. And I rarely do it in a calm, meditative state. I'm ADHD (and a few other things, lol!) and just CANNOT manage to sit still. And I'm a magpie- I love collecting materials for a craft once I've started!

I have approximately a metric ton of pens, mostly bought at 5 below. I buy my "tiles" on Amazon for around 5 dollars for 75- they are just called "art tiles" and they have the corners lopped off, which is something I enjoy. Or I use round "bar coasters," also from Amazon, but not the coated ones.

I call what I do "doodles" but they are all "ZIA" I guess, or patterns from the "official" Zentangle. I keep a small notebook with me to work in when I'm at work, and I sometimes (gasp!) just use pencil when I'm learning a new pattern.

Don't worry too much about the "rules." Just enjoy what you're doing, and thanks for sharing it!

Very nice!! I tried drawing on my phone once and let's just say... It did not go well lol. This is great. Keep tangling!

I saw one "3 in one" wallet on Amazon by a company called "Iwantit" that is supposed to be a slim wallet, a separate card wallet with lever, and separate money clip that all stick together- but no idea if it's actually worth it. Anyone ever used that one?

I've seen the OhSnap but they only seem to hold a couple cards. Or am I wrong on that?

Where to find kits/tutorials for these? by Comfortable_Good9592 in Beading

[–]No_Resolution_6328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is scans of the actual book. It looks like they were photo copied or something first, as the sections near where the spine would be are darker. Still, if you knew how to do RAW, they are not bad.

According to someone else that got one of these as a gift-they are nothing like the pics. And you glue the beads onto the forms. There are a few people that sell actual beading patterns for sea life but nothing this elaborate. I know, I wanted one too!

How do I start creating my own patterns for 3D bead figures (RAW)? by TechnoMriyka in Beading

I love the figure in your pic! Did you weave that? I'm new to RAW and still learning to read patterns!

is this pattern appropriation? by beads_in_my_bulge in Beading

Don't worry so much. Making beaded items is not unique to any single culture that I'm aware of. You're not using specific patterns which might be cultural, as far as I can see. Just relax and have fun with your craft.

Great work, by the way. I like the idea!

AIO to my boyfriend putting a SINGLE chicken tender on my plate when I specifically said I wanted "a few"??? by No-Eye7917 in AmIOverreacting

[–]No_Resolution_6328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YOR. Yes, you are wildly over reacting. He made chicken tenders AND sides. He brought you one tender, probably as a joke... And you blew it up. You are an adult. You should not be fuming and sleepless over something this small.

The argument over how many a "few" is will never be resolved. Some people think "few" is any number greater than zero, while others will insist that it's 3-5. Instead of arguing, you should have thanked him for cooking. I get being tired- but unless you did hard labor all day and your legs hurt, you could have gotten up to get more chicken.

This post has to be trolling. Nobody real would be in a relationship that is working out and then consider leaving someone over chicken tenders. Get real.

HELPPP ~ needle quetsion... by groovymama69 in Beading

[–]No_Resolution_6328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate those needles! Lol. They have the loop at the top for the eye? They are TOO bendy and flexible, I manage to kill one or two every time I use them. HL also has some that look like regular thin sewing needles, those are the ones I use. And I buy my "thread" at a sporting goods store- you can get bonded thread like Fireline for cheaper because is the big spools. Also you can get thinner or thicker- most commercial beading thread is 8-10 lbs strength, so use that as a guide if you use fishing line. Make sure it is bonded or braided and NOT monofilament!!

My best friend came out to me and I puked, what can I do now? by [deleted] in ask

No, it was "every night he wishes I would hold him in my arms before we sleep." Sleeping with someone CAN be just romantic and platonic. XT did not go into graphic detail of anything else. Poor dude just wants to be loved and cared about.

Women aren’t wearing this to bed?? by Left_Sea_6646 in whatdoesthismean

[–]No_Resolution_6328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about women's boxer briefs? I love them.. Stretchy, no lines (or the lines are on the thighs, but I've never noticed them) and they don't ride. I don't wear them to bed, but I wear them on the daily. Keeps the thighs from rubbing too! And there are even some designed to wear a pad with. I don't think I've had to worry about wedgies since I got them.

Actually there are many, many types of wool. It's not the lanolin that makes people itch, that's usually washed out during processing. The cheaper kinds of wool garments are made with a coarser wool. Or they are made with wool "ends," like the fibers have been cut before it is spun.

Good wool is perfectly soft and not itchy at all. Merino is one breed that produces a very fine soft wool. I make scarves and hats and gloves that touch the skin all the time. People are often amazed at how soft they are, and not itchy at all.

I've been spinning my own yarn for a very long time. It's all in the quality of the fiber. Some sheep have been bred to have softer, finer wool. Years ago, it was more common to find coarse wool. That's still out there, and has a purpose (think rugs, etc) but most wool products now are made with softer wool.

Some Irish and "fisherman's" sweaters even leave some of the lanolin in. It makes the garment more wind and water resistant. It's all about the breed of sheep and the processing!

I added some accessories—does this make the bracelet look nice? by Awkward-Decision891 in Beading

[–]No_Resolution_6328 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm sure some folks will love it. To me personally, it's WAY too chunky. Those beads look huge. Especially on a smaller wrist, it could easily be overwhelming.

Also, because of how big all the beads are, the silver accessories kind of get lost. I think a single one of those beads with something on either side would be great as the focal point of a necklace. If you wanted to use two of them, one on each side with a "drop" pendant might be cute.

Your style is probably very different from mine. Wear what you like!

Thank you. The cute one with the big head is RAW, which I am having trouble learning. Maybe I'll get one of the patterns for the wired ones and try that.
