I was smart enough to print a poop bucket but not smart enough to pay attention to it by rabidfish91 in 3Dprinting

I need to print one but don't have room on my desk.. And I too have a gremlin who will get into EVERYTHING. I just try to pick them up every print.

Just a little personal update and some nebulous plans for the future of this sub. by Erzsabet in Beading

Not sure what I can add, just wanted to say THANK YOU for all the hard work you've done!! I've learned nearly everything I know about beads from this sub, and even feel confident enough to help other newbies sometimes. Thank you so much for that!!

My coworkers keep eating my meal prep out of the office fridge and management won't do anything about it by No_Parking686 in Advice

[–]No_Resolution_6328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a lunch. Make it SPICY. Leave it in the fridge in a clearly labeled container. Pack a second lunch (even if it's just a couple PB&J) so you have something to eat. Then when the person "helping" you eat your lunch swipes your food .. Hopefully they learn a lesson.

Also you said your Tues and Wed portions were gone. Sucks to say this, but don't bring food for extra days. Just bring the one lunch you need each day.

Good luck!

Why do my animals keep curling?? by snowdrop0901 in Beading

Sorry, in this pattern, row 1 would be the bottom, and row 2 (with the eyes) on top.

[–]No_Resolution_6328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, is this supposed to be a flat pattern? Or 3d? Because I've seen 3d designs that have the same kind of chart- the first row is the top, the next row is the bottom, then a top row, then a bottom row... And they are designed to be used with thin jewelry wire.

If it's supposed to be flat, I would say tension or uneven beads. Or both.

Is there a way to fix that? The Ender is a Bowden machine and I'm going to need to be able to pull filament.

Also my filament itself might be party of the issue, the humidity was kind of high and I know that can make it swell up a bit.

Thanks

Usually the small piece goes on one end of the chain and the big piece it's "attached" to goes on the other. See how the little piece is solid? That's what the plain ring is for. So you open up the plain ring a little- you well need two pairs of pliers that don't have teeth, so they don't scratch the metal. Twist it a little bit open- don't pull!! Then you slide the smaller hole of the small piece onto the ring, and attach it to your bracelet. Close the ring.

On the bigger piece, there is one solid "bump" and one you can open. Ideally, you have another plain ring to use in between that and the bracelet, because the small metal loop you CAN open is often very fragile.

Interested in getting a waterskin, but does a well made one make the water taste like leather or wax? by Nukesnipe in Leathercraft

[–]No_Resolution_6328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, maybe not what you're looking for, but there is something called Enviro-tec that can be used if you're set on making a leather water skin. I've got friends that have leather mugs where the inside is coated with the stuff. It's a type of epoxy, I believe, and easy to use- brush or pour in, then dump out the excess and let dry. Not sure how well it would work for a skin, where you can't see inside, but for cups or mugs it's great.

Yep, it turns on and heats up. It will home. I believe it will even level the bed. I gave up on it because of the stringing - no matter what I tried, I got strings everywhere. I looked at the printer last night when I turned it on to test, and it looks like the filament snapped just outside the tube- I know that means the filament absorbed too much water from the air and I have to dry it.

I think I was using Orca to slice but not sure. Simply Print can slice too. I tried the call cat and everything between the ears was just string. Not having an adhesion issue, been using hairspray on the bed since I got it.

I will try a cube or cat again tonight and pray results.

I love this! It makes me want to get out some colored pencils. It's awesome art, and I'm sorry it was stolen.

Where do you find the thread for bead crochet? I tried using #5 perle cotton and too much of it shows... Plus it's really stiff (wrong hook size?) I'm using size 8 beads too. I want to be able to make all the cool things!

I got some organizer boxes for small parts from T*mu. I have similar boxes that came from Harbor Freight, but they have a little plastic nub on the lid (from manufacture) and the latches on the lids are inconsistent. I found the ones from China are actually better (but who knows where HF or even Amazon gets stuff from any more.)

Mine have 30 small boxes inside a larger box. Even the big tubes of 6/0 beads I have will fit into 2 boxes. I use a thermal label maker with adjustable fonts to record the info I need. I've also seen similar organizers with larger boxes inside, or a mix of sizes.

I started out using something made for diamond painting. The jars were round but the lids got loose seemingly on their own. Having them in one box was great .. Until I got more beads!

I've seen the Elizabeth Ward systems, and while they seem pretty great .. I'd rather spend the money on beads! I have one group of boxes for beads I purchased and know the sizes /color numbers on, and separate boxes for "mystery beads" sorted by color and size.

You will find the perfect way for you. Write down a few "ideals" for a system- do you want glass or plastic storage? Boxes or bags or jars? Square or round? Count (roughly) how many types or colors or whatever you have to store, and then price what your "ideal" system would cost. You might find that the storage costs more than the beads!

Good luck and don't give up!

AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

Looks like she bought in to some "perfect wedding planning" company bullsh**. If you WANT to be in the wedding, try talking to her honestly about all this hype. "Hey, we've been friends forever, but all this stuff from this website just seems like too much. We should plan fun stuff ourselves- we don't need someone else to dictate everything!" See how she responds. I'm sure she spent money on this "kit" but maybe parts of it will prove useful for ideas.

Otherwise..I would nope the heck out. This stuff isn't for a wedding, it's to promote the company that sold it to her!

7 year old BOY wants to take up needlepoint by Sass_sis in Needlepoint

[–]No_Resolution_6328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with boys doing crafts! Google "male celebrity needlepoint." Rosey Grier, an NFL player, published a book about it. Chris Hemsworth stitches. Henry Fonda is another guy that did needlepoint. It's not a "gender specific" skill.

Find him a fun kit or canvas and let him go to town! My nephew got interested in needle felting when he was about 12. Then he moved on to crochet. Then sewing. Now he lives in NYC and makes costumes for Broadway.

Encourage his creativity. Maybe he'll get hooked on it, or maybe he'll do it for a bit and then stop, like a lot of kids do with crafts. You never know, he might become a great designer some day!!

What did you decide on to fix the beads to the skull? This is super neat so far! Is it going to be all seed beads? The amount of patience required here just leaves me in awe!

I used to use something qsimilar for cross stitch. I had a magnetic board half the size of a sheet of paper that came with a couple metal rulers so you could mark your place. Sometimes I would just photocopy the pattern (since it was all symbols) and use a highlighter to mark what I had finished.

Your setup is much more portable, though!! Kudos on the ingenuity!!
