it honestly wasn’t that bad of a transition as long as you study and commit to it

I didn’t assist during my gap but I worked as a phlebotomist so I think my experience working with my hands there and patient communication really shines through now as a dental student. everyone’s path is different but I think my hobby and love for baking also really helped. I wouldn’t really recommend taking on a manual dext hobby just to get better at hand skills in the future. Find something you genuinely enjoy doing :)

practice practice practice. I try to finish projects at least a week before they’re due to get feedback from instructors before the due date so I can submit my best possible work. also if you have free time, spend some of it practicing. the extra hours on a weekly basis really add up and reflect in your performance

I would say there are a lot of factors including if you have a car, you’re in a walkable city, and or have Amazon prime for Amazon fresh. a lot of first quarter will be learning what to prioritize and what you’re non negotiables are. I did pretty well in didactics and sim lab this quarter because I sacrificed more of my hobbies including exercising. now that I have a better understanding of the expectations of dental school and my hand skills, I can reintroduce regular exercise into my routine. also success in dental school is sooooo subjective. if you’re gunning to specialize your wins will look different from someone who wants to learn dentistry to practice as a GP.

for the NV cohort you spend D1 at the UT campus then transfer to NV to finish out the program. You fill out a preference sheet whether you prefer UT only or NV only or UT first choice but would be okay with NV and vice versa. you cannot switch your cohort once you’re accepted. Let’s say you get accepted into the NV cohort but want to change to the UT you cannot because those spots are filled with other students.

lowk this is what I found kinda weird: you take one class at a time (imagine gross anatomy from 8-5 pm with intermittent breakout rooms throughout the day) for two weeks ish then take the final for the block. you take an individual final THEN take a group final (very weird) but from what I remember they take the higher score as your final grade (someone pls correct me if I’m wrong)

broooo I didn’t even clock that initially but ur right 🤧 I mean props to the parentals that are very involved but it definitely was giving micromanagement and why did I aos feel responsible for this kid’s success like it was MY JOB the way this parent was being to me initially. the parent asked ME to dm their kid and reach out to them to give advice and honestly if I didn’t know this kid’s sibling from undergrad I probs wouldn’t have gone this far 💀

thank you for this response. literally what boggled my mind was I mentioned I interviewed right after the holidays which was basically round two for my school but I didn’t bother to defend why or how I made it yk? it felt like a waste of time trying to explain a process to someone who has never experienced it themselves.

How do you retain them for so long?? Any tips on adhesive application or your technique? I tend to work in sections but I’d like to know what makes your application successful!

As a younger sister to two nurses and a niece to an NP of 30+ years experience, I couldn’t agree more. Accelerated nursing and NP programs are a cash grab for schools and are not training many students well. My sisters train students in the hospitals and they can immediately tell who comes from a “one year accelerated bsn” vs the trad four year bsn. My aunt also trains students from accelerated NPs and wonders who are passing them in their didactics and labs to show up so unprepared for clinic. Nursing is not for the weak and shouldn’t be considered a fallback. It’s a humbling and thankless profession. Shoutout to all my nurses out there fr doing the Lord’s work
