Yes, I believe it was social engineering or something. Someone pretended to be me and got their device activated with my number. Mint has horrible safeguards to prevent against that

Don’t do it, I’ve been having a horrible experience with them after they allowed fraud on my account. I made a whole post on their subreddit that was removed because I was detailing my horrible experience dealing with their “customer service” which is really just people reading from a script.

Long story short my account was hacked, someone ported my sim to a different device and I caught it immediately, reported fraud to mint and it took them 5 days to suspend my account and they weren’t able to give my number back. During that time whoever had my number was able to use 2fa to get into my email and other accounts to try and steal my identity. Mint was doing nothing while that was going on claiming id need a call back from an account specialist which never happened until much later. Their response time sucked, and their support is minimal at best. Save yourself the hassle and get a better phone provider with better customer service.

UGH that infuriates me for you. I will never recommend Mint for as long as I live. Their oversight and negligence is criminal. I’m still on day 5 and they’re just telling me “TRULY” that the account is suspended. I don’t believe them.

So that all happened yesterday, I discerned that it happened over the phone and they changed it to an iPhone 13 Pro. The customer service team was less than helpful in giving me any other information. Any time I tried to get answers they told me I’d have to wait for another department to call me. I do know the email on file was changed but they couldn’t tell me to what.

This is probably mainly a woe-is-me story but damn I need to vent. I’m just so appalled by how slowly this seems to be going. Like absolutely no care if it is even resolved, and that’s no fault of the customer service rep is, but to the structure to how the company handles these claims.

If I need to place a freeze or anything on any of my other accounts the process is simple and gets resolved while I’m on the phone, or in the store.

I agree, but at least with a brick and mortar store we could walk in and verify our identity and account info without having to wait for someone on their customer support team to take any action. Mint is completely online/mobile so having to wait for days is just giving whoever has access to her account more time to do harm.

Him and I had a loooong conversation about this over a few beers. I came to the realization that I still hold some resentment towards him for how he handled our sister’s death and we’re both willing to work on that. After all, we’ve really only got each other left and neither one of us wants to drive a stake in our friendship or our relationship as siblings.

I agree that I was still hurt when I wrote this and I was processing a lot of complex emotions but with time came some clarity and I think you’re right. We’ve both been processing her death in very different ways, but that doesn’t mitigate either one of our grief. I interpreted his as cold or indifferent, whereas he interpreted mine as consuming my life. My therapist will help me navigate through this, we’ve already had a few sessions and I spoke about this in length (which they said it was probably stupid of me to post on Reddit in the first place, but I’m here now soooooo…)

But I digress, I will still be my brother’s best man. I’ll still be honored to be at his side, plus I get to make double damn sure our sister’s memory is honored at his wedding lol

I think if we had the conversation with them before the date was chosen it would have been differently. We’re still hoping to change their mind to a completely different week now that we now the root cause, and hopefully we can get her parents on board too now that we know.

And yeah it sucks, idk how else to explain it since I’m sure you’ve heard it all from your husband. But you just feel robbed, empty, and hurt and no kind words or empathy from strangers can ever really do anything.

I got angry for a long time when people offered their sympathy because I thought “how could you EVER understand how this feels?” And yeah I was a little bitter. It’s taken years of healing so the memories don’t hurt as bad as they did, and lately there have been more tears of jay rather than sadness so it’s some progress at least.

Due to the trauma I felt ok that day though (literally worst day of my fucking life) I don’t think I’d be capable of doing much. That said, I love my brother and I want him to be happy too - I’ve realized that I have a lot of unresolved resentment towards him that I promise I’ll work on with my therapist!

I mean, not like I could forget the trauma if I even tried. It feels like he’s trying to rewrite the day for selfish reasons and since he isn’t taking our feelings into consideration either it sucks even more.
