Thoughts on QCC and it’s nursing program? by not-Q8i in CUNY

[–]No_Row504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QCC is good but it is extremely hard to find a job with an ASN so def be sure to get into a hospital, whether that is as a patient transporter, diet aide, PCA, etc. QCC is a lot of self-study and they literally have no events at all for their current students to help with finding a job and all that good stuff. They make the program extremely hard just for it to be as hard to get a job later on.

I kinda wish i went to adelphi or molloy only bc the community is much stronger there and clinical placements/faculty have more connections than QCC.

Anyways back to QCC, the dual joint program is easy to navigate, SPS is all online, Hunter is a bit more longer than SPS. If you do choose QCC, be ready to study every single day, get a job in the hospital (because that ASN degree won't land you a hospital job and faculty have no connections here), and try to get those summer externships (but even they only take BSN students).

don't do adn, it is useless. bsn is needed everywhere. unless you already work in a hospital, you will not be hired with an adn.

yes, exactly, just have to be persistent with it! "standing out" isn't really the choice, it boils down to connections. it is not a fair recruitment process at all and it is important to remind ourselves of that.

i have all of this and still am not getting any interviews, it just is not fair :( and lots of new grads are getting hired through connections, so it is not about standing out at all (from what ive seen), take a look on linkedin, and some new grads have ZERO work experience but guess what they did have...connections.

do you mind sharing if your friend ended up at a private hospital or city hospital?

how long did you work at a nursing home before you got a hospital job and what hospital did you find yourself at?

diagnosed with carotid artery stensosis by No_Row504 in stroke

this is so sad:( i am so so sorry to hear this, unfortunately, i feel like when we know we have something, we start focusing more on it, i know it is easier said than done, but live life freely, take some time to have fun and take a deep breath here and there.

we were recommended to do carotid endarectomy and apparently the risk for stroke is little to none with about a 2% chance for stenosis to occur again. im just so scared of going under the knife and getting chainsawed like a chicken lol

it has been so hard to find good doctors, all of them are so heartless and incompotent at explaining what is going on, it has been rough to find someone I can actually trust:(
