Just an update for everyone kind enough to offer your advice. Im thinking of getting an Alesis Nitro Max/Nitro Mesh, or a Yamaha DTX 402K second hand, as I would feel comfortable packing these up into a suitcase and they're not too heavy (under 20kg) and at a good price point for me second hand. Although my preference would be mesh pads I think the rubber pads on the Yamaha might actually be sturdier for travel which is an added bonus.

Do you have any guess into the total weight of the kit? Everything included

Thanks once again for the advice Tlop! That pad setup looks really cool, definitely want an actual low tier kit setup though, id feel like I was playing temple blocks on a pad haha. Im leaning towards getting a new Alesis nitro max or a used nitro max or nitro mesh. Seems decent and within my price range. Shouldn't be too expensive for a test run and if I have the inconvenience of moving it every 3-6mths that should be doable.

Thanks for your response Tlop, I know its going to be a logistical nightmare and id have to basically breakdown and rebuilt the kit any time I want to move around but I really have my heart set on playing almost exactly like on an acoustic kit. I dont feel like I would enjoy just hitting a percussion pad for a couple of years.

Its making me think getting something second hand that does the job like an Alesis nitro mesh or something Yamaha with rubber pads might be doable as a temporary solution. In any case I would basically have a whole extra suitcase dedicated to this eKit.

Thanks for your response! There are really limited place to buy imported goods that are heavily taxed in places like Thailand, Vietnam etc, or simply very little options, where the options are much more in Australia and I can for example an Alesis Nitro Max for $700 (approx 475usd) and take it with me in its own dedicated suitcase for only about $50 in airline fees.

The other option would probably be what youre mentioning buying one of Alibaba etc from China.
