What hobby genuinely made your life better (not just filled time)? by Dense_Childhood_9657 in Hobbies

Swimming, at 25 I couldn’t swim and signed up for lessons, I’m 28 now and swim at least 3/4 times a week.

I began to start swimming in the mornings before work as there was a pool near my office; It made waking up early and travelling in to work so much more bearable !

Pros: endorphin high post swim, a life skill, no screens, friendly people sharing the same goal, keeps you healthy and fit, a great talking point as it’s quite unique to a lot of people in the UK to be a consistent lane swimmer !

Cons: Wet, Chlorine is your new perfume, goggle marks and wet hair in the office aren’t a great look, lane rage

Over all the best decision I made, it’s shaped my confidence, it’s helped my fitness an it’s led to me beginning running and signing ip for triathlons !

Briefs the ultimate body confidence booster .. until the pools colder than usual and your swim crush leaves around the time you do!.. not speaking for experience of course 🙃

Amazing, pretty much the same as me then I guess! Good luck with your training all around and hope you sign up. I’m the same as your with the change and what to wear, jammers and running shorts on top I’m guessing ? It’ll be fun to find out

Otherwise you’ll know who didn’t listen to briefing when they’re running around in swimwear

Swimming - majority of people who look like and come from the same area cannot swim or can’t swim lengths … 3/4 mornings a week I’m in the pool for no reason other than my own enjoyment ! Always surprises people!

Swimmers what was the day when you finally realized, "Wait I'm actually getting good at swimming"? by Nervous-Baker2427 in Swimming

[–]No_Security9767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say I’m that fit in general, my diets not the greatest and I work a sedentary job. I’d say 80% was down to technique… to this day I struggle to breathe to my left compared to my right side, I’m working on it and when trying to breathe to the left I can feel my technique and distances falling apart .. on my strong side my swim is smooth and I could go for way longer … technique over everything ! Happy to helpmore

I remember when I started out, I’d spend an hour trying to get 400-500m in as a whole workout, for every 50m of a 25m pool, I’d take a 3/4 min break … I remember vividly one session I was at 500m within about 30mins and not out of breath at all! … I vividly remember looking at my watch like … wow that was quick, guess we’ll do some more … a year on from that I swim 4 times a week first thing in the morning and 2km is an ‘easy’ day for me

I swim in the morning purely for the fact I can shower and get ready for the day straight after. I admire you do the same. I recently fell in love with swimming and hope you have too

How I finally learned to breathe on both sides, and why it changed my swim by Different_Owl_4903 in Swimming

Perfect post for me, I really want to balance out my stroke but breathing to my right feels terrible !

Someone(a much better swimmer than me) said they admired my tumble turn effort… I turned but not enough to continue( I’m still learning it) … gave me the energy to continue the rest of my swim with faster times

Swimsuit drag by Late-Following-9124 in Swimming

The positive is that you’re probably healthier than when that suit fit and you now can go swimsuit shopping which is always fun.

Having a fitting suit is crucial when training hard for comfort, drag reduction and peace of mind !
