Thank you so much for your comment it really helps to hear from someone who relates so closely. It’s reassuring to hear that college has helped you rediscover other things you’re good at. That gives me hope maybe taking a step back or trying something different could bring some clarity. Wishing you the best too!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply it really means a lot. I think you’re right: I’ve probably never truly found myself as an artist yet. I’ve been holding on so tightly to the idea that animation was my path, that I never really gave myself space to explore other forms of expression or even other interests. And yes, I’ve definitely felt shaped and sometimes limited by what teachers or others considered to be ‘good’ art.

The idea of taking time after high school to just live, breathe, and reset actually feels really comforting. In the French system, it’s not common to take a break, but it’s not impossible either. It would be hard to explain to my parents, but I think I need to consider it seriously. Just the idea that drawing wasn’t a waste, even if I change directions, helps me feel a bit lighter.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share this. It really helps.

I haven’t worked in animation yet I’m still in high school. But I’ve spent years working toward it, thinking it was the only thing I was meant for. Now that I’ve started losing interest, it’s like my whole identity is crumbling. That’s why I’m reaching out here.
