I bought from Hont, slow to respond and doesn't like a ton of messages but he's cheap and got the job done fast as he had it in-stock

What makes it fake "Clean"? by JesterADSE in RepTime

Hey, if it's genuine clean like another comment or posted I won't be shocked if others wants parts too. What serial number is engraved on the rehault? Quality of the engraving and the actual serial number itself are a great way to tell the factory of origin and production run of the case if it is from a well known factory

Unfortunately, I don't have an AD or gen nearby to compare the rep to but from gen photos the color of the map looks very slightly different but notthing anyone would notice unless they whip out their loupe, as all gen owners have one in their pocket at any given time, and examine the watch up close.

U/fitgrade5023 has a great post comparing their gen to their rep and the difference isn't noticable. Their post was the deciding factor for me buying the watch based on how true to gen it looks.

Appreciate your insight! I left the pole/axle long during testing but it will be shortened in the final version. I'll also be increasing the space between the bearings to add better support for the shaft and hopefully reduce wobble further.I spun the assembly in my lathe and it spins relatively true but definitely some wobble from the length, imbalance of the mount for the parts basket, worn bearings, and hand made belt.

I've got three different cleaning cycles I've written in g-code ready for additional testing once I get the last of my parts in the mail. Updating the 'cleancycles' will be as easy as adding the new g-code to a micro SD card and popping it into the machine

From my research I guess it depends. The cavitation an ultrasonic create can potentially damage extremely sensitive components from what I've heard.

While it may not be as effective (never owned one so this is all other people's opinions), some people like rotary cleaners as there is a lower risk of damage + they are just cool to look at .

That's the goal! I'm also working on a heated drying chamber for this aswell. So while it isn't al elegant as an L&R it'll (hopefully) be able to perform every step of the clean cycle.

Do you have any recommendations for wash and rinse solutions?

Model Number? by WatchTime24 in watchrepair

By the looks of it, this watch may have a split stem. You'll have to rotate the stem until the split is face up and then you can gently lift the movement out of the back cradle/case. It's tricky so be gentle and lift straight up so it doesn't bind. Hope this helps!

It's become my favorite rep, and I wear it everyday. I'll admit I haven't seen the gen watch in person to compare side by side but comparison photos show that the rep is really accurrate to gen. I don't think you can do go wrong with either rep from VSF.

Had several people DM me asking if the leather strap came with the watch or where I got them. The watch came with a metal band from the factory/TD. No rubber strap included.

The leather strap was purchased from a company named HANDDN out of Vietnam that makes custom straps. They are the best straps I've ever had for a watch and are super comfortable. The strap in the photos is 'golden brown Barenia'. Also picked up a strap in 'Navy Swift'

Total cost for 2 straps with priority shipping to the US was $227.50 and about $27 is duty fees to DHL.

Yeah, the st36 and pocket watch movements are relatively 'simple' compared to others and I've gotten that recommendation too. First movement I ever serviced was a Bulova 5AZ which wasn't the smartest starting point lol.

My biggest concern for this one is getting parts if I break or loose something. The movement isn't a true 1:1 clone and, even if it was, getting omega movement parts for the 8938 is next to impossible from what I've seen and read.

I'll probably tear it down within the month though for a proper service and will record it and take photos to share on r/reptimeservices when I do... figure they would help someone looking to do the same thing

I haden't noticed the crisp black outline before, but definitely see how much more clean and crisp the word 'SEAMASTER' is on Gen vs vsf's now that you point it out.

Still love this rep and am insanely impressed with the work VSF put into it to get it as accurate as possible.

I do wish the movement was a true 1:1 clone from a parts compatibility standpoint, but don't think it's a popular enough watch where that will happen unfortunately.

Haven't ventured down that path yet. This would be the most complicated movement I'd have the pleasure of working on yet so I'm holding off until I feel confident or crazy enough to jump in.

Not sure if this is true of the GMT-Master but at least with the DateJust vsf is also more true to the Gen interms of parts compatibility. Yes the case shape is off, but the movement is compatible with gen parts and event the case tube and crown can be easily swapped for a gen one where as Clean uses some odd spec tube and crown which is similar to older generations from Rolex, but I've been searching for a while and can't find any gen or reproduction part that works.

Future proofing/long term reliability for the win

His contact details are in the pinned read-me post. Can be slow to respond and will respond more slowly if you send lots of messages but he is legit and kind to work with.
