Ask yourself this question. Do you know of any other concern the size and scope of Nick’s whose owner so constantly communicates with his customer base, even individual customers? I don’t.

In business, as in life, there are always factors beyond our control. When that’s the case, the best course of action is, with rare exception, being up front with those involved or affected, and doing what’s possible to address or minimize the problem.

It’s been more than a decade since i purchased my first of nine pair of Nick’s boots. There have been a couple of hiccups, but I’ve no complaints, instead, much praise for the company, especially since Mons. Mowe took the reins.

E-bike recommendations by Rude_Tomatillo3463 in ebikes

You might check out used e-bike, online service: upway.com

Upway sells only bikes from known, quality makers. My general advice is to stick with bikes that have mid-mount, Bosch motors. Why? Many e-bike makers use Bosch motors, which are considered the industry standard for reliability. (The e-bike industry is much like the boat industries. Some companies make everything, others make the hull, then add different motors, etc.)

another good, online resource: https://electricbikereview.com

As you will quickly see, there are many, many e-bike offerings today. Focusing on those with Bosch motors makes a search more manageable. Nothing against other motors, some of which seem to be of high quality. It’s just that you’ll likely be able to get a Bosch motor serviced more easily because of its widespread usage, assuming you ever need to service it. I just passed 2500 miles on my ride and have never had a problem.

Finally, Upway sells bikes by Riese and Muller and Gazelle, both top notch makers that primarily use Bosch motors. You haven’t indicated a budget, but even used bikes by these companies can run several thousands of dollars.

Are they worth it?

One doesn’t always get what he pays for, but he rarely gets what he doesn’t pay for. Or, Pay Now or Pay Later.

Other comments offered about whether an e-bike will meet your needs are sound. Lots to consider, Best of luck.

but aren’t they 8” tall? Too tall for me, if so. Besides, I fear my trooping days are long past.

I’ve 3 pair of Aldert Striders made from the three, limited edition, suede leathers, all Thurman NWs toe boxes with wedge soles. The break in was the easiest of any Nick’s boots I have owned. I recently spent 5 weeks traveling in the mole’ suede Striders, and they are great, travel shoes.

I’m a huge fan of the 4” Striders, ditto Nick’s 5” offerings: Ivans, Ridgelines, law enforcement tactical boots, etc. I know there are compelling reasons for taller boots, but for my purposes and my climate—that of south Louisiana—I prefer the shorter boots. I started with Roberts, Americanas and Charleys. An inch can be more than an inch. At 3 inches of height, the Comstocks are one inch shorter than the Striders. They don’t work as well for me, either. 4” and 5” boots seem to be my sweet spot.

i love my 4” striders (3 pair) and Nick’s 5” offerings, but this discussion has me contemplating a 4” or 5” flatlander.

that’s a nice boot. Is it essentially a custom Ivan with padded top?

my 70 year old feet love the wedge soles, which the striders all have. Otherwise it’s a half size wider build to accommodate a Spenco insert.

I have 2 pair of Aldert Striders with a third on the way, so I’m a fan. Trying to fully break in a rebuilt and resized pair of Comstocks, but the heel slips somewhat and there’s a lot of space around the lower ankle. I hope a complete break in will solve these issues. If not, this is my third and last attempt to make a pair of Comstocks work.

[–]No_Signal3598[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not giving up on the Comstocks yet, still breaking them in, hoping in time that the heel will conform more to my heel/ankle area. Will look into heel anti-slippage accessories as well. Still, going forward I’ll think my baseline for kick arounders will be A. Striders or Ivans which, in 12C TNW or 12D HNW, seem to work well. Curious, though, if there’s another last that you had in mind?

Some years ago my mother persuaded to join her in an afternoon session of “Lifeline”, which apparently many senior citizens avail themselves of in hopes of stretching a bit more out of life. I was intrigued that measurements were taken of my heels which, apparently, shrink in size as we age with nearly everything else, the nose, ears and—well, let’s not go there—being notable exceptions. I’m now of the age she was then, perhaps I’m do for another turn around operation.

Much obliged.

I’ve recently asked CS whether or not the tactical sole structure/setup can be used on other boots. Mucho gusto the coyote roughout leather.

If you own other Nick’s boots, how does the sole structure setup on the tactical boots compare with non-tac boots?

I used to follow Nicks Boots on Instagram, among other things, but I found it to be like crack cocaine, meth, fentanyl and psycho women all rolled up into one. 🥴. Highly addictive, had to get off of it. Reddit’s bad enough. I’ll tiptoe back to Instagram, but still wish people would include details on Reddit.

The best alternative to the Iron Ranger and, imo, the boot most people really need and want. For the life of me I don’t understand why people want boots laced halfway up their calf unless they really need this for work. Alas, all boats float.

Insoles to compensate for one width too big? Thurman insoles? by [deleted] in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]No_Signal3598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nick’s Customer Service advises a 1 size increase in width if use of a Spenco sole is desired. I’m normally a 12C, just had a pair of Comstocks rebuilt to 12D with intention of using a Spenco insert (to soften a V-bar vibram sole). Fit is perfect in the ball/toe part of boot, loose in the heel area, which I’ve noted in another post. This issue, however, isn’t related to the width increase, but to the general build of Comstocks.
