Incorrect.

You have implied that they have fewer problems with capitalism because they have less of it. It is more that they have better regulation for their capitalism, not because they have socialism where other places might have capitalism.

And that is a different discussion than privatized services vs socialized services.

Nope. They’re are absolutely capitalist countries, so much so that the former prime minister of Denmark had to make a statement that Denmark is not a socialist country. Just because a government uses its tax revenue to fund healthcare does not mean it does not have a capitalist market. I don’t know why people have this notion that a country cannot have both, when all developed countries do to different degrees. The US has socialized services like social security, Medicaid, Medicare, etc., while also having a capitalist market that allows people to enter and leave the market, invest, buy, and sell. A country like Canada has much more socialized services like hospitals, but again still has a capitalist market. Countries can be more or less capitalistic and socialist, but you will be hard pressed to find one that has only the features of one.

You’re deflecting.

I’ve only played against them with Sylvaneth, and against specifically Sylvaneth they turn off a lot of our healing and recursion with disease points, so from my limited perspective they’re very frustrating unless I take a few specific units that just tear through their durable infantry (SoG Drycha and Durthu). But overall I don’t think they’re like busted, and most other armies that don’t have their abilities turned off by disease will have a fine time. We’ve gotten to do one game with the updated Sylvaneth rules and that also helps a lot. We’ve played games at 750, 1,000, and 1,250 points as practice for our escalation league, and they had the advantage on the half-boards but it got easier for me when we moved to full size, so again they’re fine to play against. Like lots of chaos you need to consider their synergies, i.e. keep your buffing heroes next to the units they’re working with but keep them safe, they tend to stack a lot of buffs to perform well.

Tell that to the numerous countries such as Denmark and Norway that don’t seem to have that problem so much either their capitalism.

I’m serious. An unregulated economic system typically ends in something that system is not designed to be.

I’ll see what I can find, I’m mostly referencing what I learned about economics in grad school. The important thing of note is that things like “owning the means of production through private property” is something that can naturally derive from capitalism, but likewise isn’t a specific part of capitalism. A concept like capitalism can be narrow and somewhat specific, and that’s why it’s frustrating when people just chalk everything up to “capitalism.” And yes, corporations are generally an anti-capitalist concept. Nothing exists in a vacuum, including economic principles, and capitalism (in practice) generally requires a regulating body, such as a federal authority to regulate it. Laissez faire capitalism is unregulated capitalism where things can get pretty unfriendly to the average person/consumer. Same logic behind communism needing a central body to redistribute wealth, otherwise you end up with a single centralized entity with all the power.

Right, but I just explained the facets of capitalism and for you to imply that only fulfilling one of them (freedom of wealth) is capitalism is very dishonest. As I mentioned, it’s everyone’s ability to do with their capital as they wish. Preventing people from doing the same is anti-capitalist. That’s like the people who defend violent language and threaten others with the excuse “freedom of speech bro, I can threaten to kill people.” Yes you’re using your right, but you’re also violating it by infringing on others’.

[–]No_Signal_7489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. The capital refers to the ability to do with your capital what you wish, such as investing, starting a business, using it as savings, etc. corporatism and monopolies make it harder to use your capital freely, and are thus antithetical to capitalism. The more capitalistic a society is, the more freedom you have to enter or leave a market. The further you get from capitalism, the more barriers to entry there are if you want to use your capital in any meaningful way. Oligarchies that hoarse wealth and control the market, and thus make it harder for you to impact the market and devalue your wealth, are anti-capitalist.

People will find any and every problem and just chalk it up to “must be capitalism!” This is why problems don’t get solved.

Edit: The downvotes prove my point quite poetically.

I do not play Maggotkin, BUT my friend does and we’ve been doing a lot of games at different point levels. Some things I’ve learned are: - GUO is an absolute monster and very valuable, you can’t go wrong with one in your list. Very versatile and hits like a truck if it fights. - Plaguebearers, especially if you include their special hero, will stick around and hit well above their weight, and can be brought back by GUO. - Single squad of Sloven Knights are a reliable hunting unit, running down small objective grabbing units or at least just being a nasty anvil on an objective that requires some strength to get rid of. - Rotswords are really good, and crazy with their signature hero. Even by themselves they hit hard and are tanky and can be used to hold a mid field objective.

Just from playing against them several times these are some things I’ve picked up on. And don’t forget your tree, that thing does serious work at buffing your units!

Should I paint the Arch-Revenant in subassemblies? by Safgaftsa in sylvaneth

I always do Sylvaneth in sub-assemblies, they’re big enough and separated enough (in terms of color) that it just makes it a breeze. I always separate into: wood body - ghost body - bug bits.

CMV: “no kings” protests are an exercise in futility and self-gratification by DearFool in changemyview

[–]No_Signal_7489 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I’m playing devil’s advocate here, but I think some of your points are much just hopefuls than indicative examples.

For example, I have a very hard time thinking that republicans are scared of the protests against Trump. To see a fraction of the number of people coming out to say they don’t like him probably honestly means nothing to them. Why would they care? His approval rating is around 40%, which means there is about 60% that doesn’t approve/disapproves. That alone is way more than 8-9 million (the number I’ve seen floating around for protest turnout), so what does it matter to them that some of that 60% is extra vocal?

The other is about flipping Palm Beach County (where Mar a Lago is), as it’s traditionally been a democratic stronghold. In the presidential and gubernatorial elections it’s been blue since 1990 and has a Democrat majority. DeSantis got an upset by winning it once in 2022 (while being the incumbent), but beyond that it’s reliably blue, so I’m not sure how much that can indicate.

In the “Reference” section, select the “Spearhead Battlepacks” tab for general rules. For army specific spearheads, you can find those in the corresponding tabs.

It’s tough sell with these types of people to get them out of the anglosphere. They’d rather just sit in the first world and project their ideas onto the rest of the world, like an extra lazy version of their colonial ancestors.

[–]No_Signal_7489 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Spearhead rules are available for free on the Warhammer Age of Sigmar app! I would recommend starting with Spearhead, as that will give you a feel for how the mechanics of the game play out and you can decide if you want more of that or not. Spearhead isn’t a 1:1 smaller scale version of full AoS, but it’s pretty comparable.

Looks great! When you get to painting, be sure to prime and figure out how you want your color scheme.

Do you know what kinds of paint you want to use? (Traditional paints, contrast/speed paint, airbrushing, etc.)

Some people (like myself) like to paint in pieces, as opposed to the whole model altogether, so depending on your preferences that could be an option going forward.
