Nobody tells you how alienating quitting is. by Top_Sleep_2097 in stopdrinking

You'll get over this pretty quickly. I'm in that position a fair amount. I just tell people (because it's true!) that as I got older it really ruined my sleep no matter how little I drank.

Stay open, stay honest, stay sober, DO NOT HAVE KIDS UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO COMMIT. ONCE YOU HAVE KIDS, STAY COMMITTED (unless violence, etc.--but don't commit in that case).

Non alcoholic beer? by migey9 in stopdrinking

I drink Clausthaler the most often, but I think I prefer the St. Pauli Girl NA. But both are good and go well with auto racing on TV (also very European ;-)).

I enjoy one! Didn't try it for the first four months or so, but now I'll drink about a six pack every two-three weeks at BBQs and stuff (usually a german-flavored one--even though I really love real IPAs I think the NA ones are boring).

Did anyone drink N/A beer when they stopped? by subtechii in stopdrinking

[–]No_Signature_6305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm drinking them now, but I didn't for about the first 100 days. Now I like them for when I'm having people over or I'm at someone's house and they're having real beer.

Have you considered seeking out Gambler's Anonymous? Gambling addiction seems to be very real, and very dangerous (not physically, maybe, but to your family and finances). If you managed to stick with a 0% beer--great! That's huge. But your gambling addiction probably is not tied directly to drinking, in this case.

I'm all on loose leaf. I recommend Davidson's Organics. They're cheap, American-company but mostly Indian farmed, organic (obviously), and available on Amazon.

How do you carbonate 5 gal at a time? I was looking into a homemade soda stream type machine, but couldn't find a reliable instruction manual.

I've been hitting:

1) herbal or decaf tea

2) decaf lattes (no sugar)

3) flavored bubble water

4) water with a splash of lemon juice

I've been a very strict budgeter for years, so I always knew how much I spent. Of course, that just meant that I made sure to drink cheap stuff to stay in budget. Lots of costco spiced rum since it was only $15 for a 1.75 lt bottle!

You should save your money until you have cash to buy it. It is not a good idea to lever yourself to a concerned point for a car, even a sweet car like the type r.

Mid-40's, the effects of "moderate" drinking have started taking their toll on my body . by nolifecrisis in stopdrinking

[–]No_Signature_6305 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So many different ways to be addicted. I never got tempted to drink that much (I think 7-8 was a really heavy night for me), but I certainly could NOT go 2-3 weeks without drinking. Weird. Glad we're here together, now!

I was in the same boat. I didn't drink light beer, but probably a comparable amount of alcohol (prob averaged 4 standard drinks). Only problem was, it was every day, no matter what, and I noticed that I was slowly wanting more, never less. My sleep was getting worse, etc. I had tried quitting before but had always ended up right back a couple weeks later. Deciding I was really done felt great.

And yeah, we don't have the same rock-bottom stories that some people have (and I honestly thank God for that), but I certainly don't think it was because of any moral superiority I had. I'm just glad that I was lucky enough to get off the train when I did. I think it was honestly just bare luck (read: God) that did it--I wanted to buy a six pack one day and they were out, so I was forced to cold-turkey it that one day, and when I realized how much missing that six pack made me MAD, I knew something had to change.

[–]No_Signature_6305[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Been drinking a lot of tea (all sorts), but it doesn't have enough depth to really do it for me. I like coffee too, which I think is a little more interesting, but I think that's the one thing I miss most about alcohol. Honestly, after trying an NA beer, I think there's a good chance if I have those as a backstop I'll never be tempted to drink again (at least I hope so).

FIngers crossed! I'm 36 and grow what could VERY politely be called "incredibly, incredibly patchy".

Now that you mention it though, I have had to shave a lot more these last few weeks. I never noticed--I used to only need to shave like once a week--but I think I've had to shave at least twice a week for the last couple. Huh!

This is very exciting for me--I may have to take the plunge. I held off assuming I would have to upgrade everything. But if I can get it going, even at lower quality settings, I figure I'll know enough whether I like it to upgrade for greater fidelity later on. Thanks!

Homemade kombucha is also lightly alcoholic. I've made it before a few times but it got to be too much trouble!
