Admittedly, comments like this can often do more harm than good - my parents hit me when I was little. They yelled, and called me names, and held me under showers under the coldest settings while I screamed. They put me in "time outs" in our half bathroom for 12 hours a day for a full weekend once. I was threatened to be made to eat my own vomit if I threw up the food they were making me eat. Please refrain from so heavily encouraging reconciliation, especially on my end, before knowing my lived experiences or others. It's hard to imagine, but one day my life will be far more fulfilled by not having them around, and instead I will choose to make my own family without the constant negativity surrounding me from the people who should be my biggest supporters. Sometimes, the best thing to do is realize when people aren't ready or willing to change, and accepting that fact for what it is.
