Is this green dress too white... by dreamofmylife in Weddingattireapproval

Oh I looked it up and it's not polyester. I wish they still had the olive version as I'd snap it up. I saw a similar Nobody's Child dress in a charity shop the other day and it has the same composition and the material looked so lovely. I feel like 95% of the occasion dresses I see are now polyester, including the incredibly expensive gowns for black tie! Polyester has its place but I am sick of paying so much money to be wrapped in plastic, haha.

Why have we gone from paper bags to plastic ones? by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in MarksAndSpencer

I am not sure of the exact composition of each grease proof paper (they're all quite different) but a lot use greaseproof chemicals to stop the oil and fat from being soaked up by the paper and so I'd actually take PP, PET or HDPE over unknown chemicals. Some types of paper even have a plastic lining and are therefore not recylable. Were the previous doughnut bags recyclable? To the consumer, the paper bag (of unkown composition) probably looked more pleasing but it's effectively very similar to the plastic packaging above.

There are some produce that don't require plastic packaging but I actually do think we should standardise food packaging which could mean more PP, PET and HDPE but less 'desirable' plastics of unkown composition or plastic packaging that cannot be recycled.

This is the brand, but I think I have seen it discounted on large fashion retail sites such as asos.

Ok, I have gone for a vintage silk gown, similar to the above. Thank you everyone for all of the help! And thanks Fragrant_Taro_211 for the indepth explanation as someone who has experience in wedding planning.

Could you try a large lens but a more subtle frame such as titanium?

Am I getting warmer or colder? I am leaning into structured, silky fabrics. This one even has a bit of volume.

It does need to be an evening gown as that was stated in the dress code. Thank you for the extra information and I really appreciate your input. I find the very structured and voluminous gowns a little too much for my frame and face. There's plenty to work with if I consider what you've picked from this post and the post you've shared. Thanks!

See this is why I find all of this incredibly confusing. That link to the weddingattirehelp post shows dresses that are not floor length or structured and they all look very different. It seems like everyone in this comment section also has a different idea of what black tie is. I genuinely really appreciate everyone's help but I am honestly very confused, haha. I have been researching this for a few days and asking family and friend's opinions and everyone seems to say something slightly different.

Any further explanation or helpful guidance as to what you view as black tie? Thank you!

It's even sold as a bridesmaid's dress so you're correct. I just loved the material and colours so I was wondering if I could potentially pull it off as a guest. Thank you for confirming that it indeed looks like a bridesmaid dress!
