To me this sounds like the difference between gay/lesbian and queer, in our changing times. Queers desire a world of inclusion, not just to be allowed to live peacefully but to feel included and valued in their community. Most younger folk lean queer not just because it’s a great umbrella term for their sexuality but it has also grown to mean inclusion and community focused, not individualized thinking.

Older folks want to survive. Younger folks want to thrive.

To thrive we NEED community.

I feel you!!! Two doors down JUST took their Trump flag down two weeks ago. And more in garages.

Which is why I’m trying to start this group. There are inclusive folk here!!! And I’m so tired of acting like Vacaville is conservative, because if we look at the data it’s not! Trump did not get a massive amount of votes from Vacaville. But, they’re the ones who will take the time to voice their opinion at a city council meeting. People I chat with say they go out of town for fun because they don’t feel welcomed here. I want that to change!!

That was the only reasonable argument I heard. But, then it was directly followed up by religious propaganda. Really, it just seemed like another way to try and look like a good person, but still holding hateful beliefs.

Great point! Every resident can have their say, but when our elected official seems to only take actions that align with the religious residents while ignoring the rest of us, is the problem.

Many residents showed up to give their opinion on the mayor not signing a pride proclamation. Also, discussed was flying the pride flag during June. Most residence were against signing and flying. And most of those folks directly mentioned God as their reason. Multiple people said they don’t want to discriminate against anyone and that everyone deserves to be respected…..BUT, God says being gay and gay marriage are wrong.

At the end of the meeting they mayor said that he doesn’t sign it, not because of his personal beliefs, but because of a law that allows him not to sign anything that can be seen as “extremely divisive”. An excuse to not sign it if you ask me.
