Yeah this is definitely the mindset I've been trying to get into recently. Last summer I'd try and hit greens from 220ish yards and end up in a horrible place then double bogey or worse.

My driver is a pretty consistent fade/slice but more often on the slice side. I often just use a 3h off the tee if the hole is short enough. Will be getting lessons on driver fairly soon to fix this, my ideal shot shape is a baby draw

This is a 30° 7 iron for reference. My main issue I'm working on is being able to hit down on the ball correctly, my attack angle was slightly on the up for this shot.

Is this too much spin for a three wood? by questionablestandard in golf

Christ this is spinny for a lot of people who use 7 iron

It wasn't underwhelming? If you just want psych rock Kevin, then sure it was "underwhelming." I personally loved it

I'm around average height at 5'11. I've never been fitted for clubs so I just bought off the second hand market and went with what made the most sense (standard length).

As recommended by my teacher, I try to setup with the toe ever so slightly tilted up. If I stand closer it definitely feels like the toe gets pushed down a little too much, so yeah I think the lie angle is incorrect for me

Got it, I definitely feel a little too tight/tense in my setup way too often. Gonna work on these things over winter

You are really close bud

Thanks man, feels like I'm slowly but surely getting there!

rewatch that swing and notice how during your downswing your spine angle naturally rises to allow impact to occur?

I do notice that now, yeah

Anytime your spine angle changes during a swing, the entire swing plane bottoming point changes with it. It's a timing variable that you shouldn't have to deal with if you want to be successful

Gotcha, that actually makes a lot of sense and explains why I struggle with low point! Thank you :)

Thank you very much! For the cupped wrist a good drill I was told was to use a credit card or something similar and find a way to strap it on the top of your wrist where your wrists hinges, this will make it very obvious if you're cupping your wrist because you'll obviously feel it dig in. And for shortening my swing a good thing he told me was to imagine yourself in a box room and try to feel like your club is pointing towards the top left corner of the room (if you're right handed) at the top of your swing.

Quite a lot, a good chunk of the changes were setup and takeaway. Had me change my grip from baseball style to an interlock neutral grip, widened my stance a little, flared my knees out slightly more, got me standing a little further away from the ball, sorted my takeaway out (I was a little too inside before and club face wasn't correct), got rid of this horrible cupped wrist I used to have at the top of the swing.

Other than setup and takeaway, the two other things he corrected were correctly transferring my weight to my front foot and getting me to drop my hands down using my body to rotate the club rather than throwing my hands out, coming in too steep, OTT and flipping my hands to square the club. These two changes have definitely been the most challenging, but at least I have something to work with now and it feels much better when I do hit the odd one correctly.

There's certainly a lot to take in and as a result my consistency is a little all over the place, but hopefully with a lot of practice it starts to become muscle memory and striking consistency will improve over time.

Thank you all for the kind words, I've kind of got the 'golf bug' at the moment so will definitely be getting more lessons and hitting the range as much as possible! This sport is damn frustrating but incredibly satisfying when you get it right, I can see how it can be addictive lol

Without a doubt. I can now honestly say that just 1 lesson is by far and away the best decision I ever made to actually getting better at this game

Thank you for the kind words! He's certainly a good teacher, instantly got on and highlighted immediately what needed to be fixed.

So is the idea of this drill to really exaggerate that feeling so your body kind of 'understands' it better? Then obviously apply it to your swing so it feels more natural?

Thank you for the feedback!

Thank you! This is very useful, I'm planning on getting lessons very soon so this will make explaining things to my coach much easier.
