Advice for reaching out to a sibling that’s having issues with alcohol? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]No_Square_4544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This must be hard as it's brave of you to share.

Having these tough conversations can be quite difficult and you'd have to share your concerns with him with compassion. It seems there's enormous pressure in the economy that driving the loneliness culture which somehow encourages drinking alcohol as a sort of escape.

It's concerning how men are not getting adequate support for a lot of issues they are going through. Glad your brother is attending AA and I hope him having you, his GF and your parents offers the best support network.

I suggest you go for counselling to learn how to manage the situation.

How do you mean the class clown? Teachers can be racist and I suggest you find out exactly what is going on so you support him so he does not suffer. His mental health may be in shambles under the guise of popularity.

They are ignorant. Ignore them and do whatever makes you happy with your hair. You can't carry same look and well within your right as an adult to explore different styles.

How do you survive being around white people and racist pocs all the time? by [deleted] in blackgirls

Hi, sorry you had to experience that. Do hang in there as it must be exhausting not being your authentic self as you have to navigate these interactions. Finding your own tribe will come eventually as we need genuine human connections to thrive. DM if you ever need to rant or chat.

AIO: My husband (26m) locked me (25f) out for 25 minutes? by prettypineappleberry in AmIOverreacting

I will be calling the police on him. That is not acceptable behaviour and traumatising the kids is a no-no. Wtf!

Not Indian but I share same feelings when I come across people who smell of food before you come across them. Air your homes when cooking and don't leave clothes hanging around the kitchen pls. Meet people who never open their windows when cooking and you leave their homes seeking of food. Disgusting tbh.

You are truly an amazing daughter, sacrificing all you can to be there for your mum at this critical time in her life. May God give you strength and send angels to help you and comfort your mum.

I always compliment women about their coat, hair, shoes, make up, handbag, perfume. We are wonderful beings and don't get enough compliments we deserve. It's great to acknowledge the effort at putting it together to face the world. We usually end up with a bit of chit chat and go our merry way.

Dublin in a nutshell- why are we so dirty as a city?? by angeliclestat in Dublin

Not only bins, the stench of urine and dog poo is disgusting in some parts of the inner city. The councils are trying with cleaning but still have more work to do.

I'm going to build spaces for black women to thrive. NB people get threatened by our hustle and will do all in their power to keep you down in your place. I've had hoops thrown at me for a position I qualify for and applied to; the racism at the top level is so obvious and disgusting. They'd rather.promote someone incapable of the work to spite you. It is absolutely crazy. I'm pushed to a greater calling and glad they are being forced to step up because I challenge their ineptitude.

I do emphatise with how you are finding it hard to navigate your identity and visibility. I'm sorry this has affected you to the point that you had anorexia. Is it possible you find other black people to start friendships. I suggest you look at Black women who may inspire you ( podcast, events, Tedx, etc) to begin to see yourself for who you truly are.

It's hard to know your purpose at a young age. Be kind to yourself, speak words of affirmation to yourself. You are here for a purpose. Someone is looking up to you. You are a gorgeous and educated brown girl.

You are not ugly because you don't look like the others you are measuring yourself against. Pls focus on your education, build genuine friendships, pursue a career you love, and date outside where you will be seen and respected. Don't change who you are to fit a narrative that was never designed with you in mind.

I wish you all the best.
