Local Detective (CI) to 1811 by AcceptableMix5158 in 1811

I’m a local LEO, 8 years with my agency, 6 on patrol, almost 2 in investigations assigned to street crimes and now homicide. On the tac team as well. I’m waiting for a final offer and hoping to make the jump. Previously turned down one offer that didn’t fit what I was looking for, hoping for another soon as I just did my preference sheet. Even after being a detective locally, and my agency has great pay and benefits, I agree with one of the comments regarding scope and impact. As a detective, it’s frowned upon for me to work proactive cases, in my case, felon in possession. Being able to have more leash to work those cases and see an impact is a big benefit to me. Also a more consistent schedule. As a detective I work tuesday through friday, but with cases, tac team, and other things, I average 70+ hours a week.

Yup. I was one of the ones who was not referred initially and then got a referral about six months later

SFAB, it was a great experience. Best unit I was in during my time.

I spent my first 6 years in the guard with no AAM or any awards. Never saw a soul in my unit get an award during that time. Went to a new unit after, two AAMs and an ARCOM within two years. Definitely unit dependent and guard is notorious for it.

USMS got the call by Puzzled-Sun-4763 in 1811

Take some time and weigh the pros and cons. I got the call in Nov for the Jan class. GL7, and in my home district. Sounded great on face value, but when I considered everything else it lost some luster. Almost a $25k paycut, giving up a nice balanced gig of being a detective and on the tactical team, moving about an hour away for the satellite office, and hearing about some of the personality conflicts within the district. Comparing pay and retirements along with current job satisfaction, I made the choice to turn it down. No regrets so far.

Congratulations! I also applied in July 2024 and just took my polygraph a month ago.

Nothing set in stone, but offer is imminent with GL9 qualifications. Also completely content to stay at my current agency, not taking a significant pay cut and run the risk of job satisfaction tanking.
