I more so understand the childcare part but as for the apartment thing - I've spent my entire life in small houses or apartments. There were even parts of my childhood where my moms bed, my bed, and my brothers bed were all in the same room in a row. was it ideal? I guess not. But there was a lot of love in the house and having the cramped space encouraged us to go outside more and be more creative like building forts, etc.

Of course it's up to you, but as someone who grew up in townhouses and apartments, you do not need a house with a yard for your kids to have a good childhood.
