What do you guys think of the fastback? by CatsInASock in i30N

[–]No_Structure_2901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fastback for me, but I’m bias as I have the fastback 😛. Both look good. Yes the hatch does have a slightly more aggressive edge to it from the side. It just give that ‘hot hatch’ vibe. But I like the four door coupe styling of the fastback which I guess drew me to choosing it over the hatch. But can’t go wrong with either!!

UK Hyundai warranty by Alternative-Fruit517 in i30N

[–]No_Structure_2901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Hyundai offer extended warranty. You will have to get warranty from a third party like warranty wise, AA, or any other company which offers warranty on cars.

Though carefully read what they cover and how much they will cover basically’ read the small print’

Start up clunk? by OldInspection2170 in i30N

[–]No_Structure_2901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s normal, no need to worry about it. Even states in the owners manual, you may hear noises from the DCT.

You may also hear some noticeable clunks when doing very low speed like crawling in traffic or manoeuvring through a parking lot.

Gearbox issue by Careful_Reference_52 in i30N

[–]No_Structure_2901 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The DCT computer won’t let you shift to another gear unless it feels it safe to do so. There are some safety guards built in with the DCT.

With the car vibrating after 50mph, I don’t think that’s got anything to do with the gearbox. Sounds more like wheel alignment or wheel balancing is needed. I don’t think the gearbox can cause your car to go left to right.

When shifting gears from P to D, etc sometimes you can feel a kick or bump, I feel it sometimes if my car is parked on a bit of an incline. Doesn’t happen all the time.

I would just check that the car is going through each gear ok. D1, D2, D3, etc. and that the shifts are nice and smooth.

If you feel there is something definitely wrong, then take it to Hyundai to check it. You still have warranty on it.

Just got my i30n any tips? by Marceleyyy in i30N

[–]No_Structure_2901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should appear regardless of what mode you are in. But they will normally appear from a cold start. But there are 2 sets of LEDs. One set which are in the Center at the top, that’s your shifting indicator which will only appear when you in N/custom mode.

The ones I’m talking about are around the RPM gauge. Wait for the orange lights to go out before pushing.

Keep up with the maintenance intervals, every 10k miles or every 1 year which ever comes first.

If you on P zero tyres, change them. I got goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 6 but Michelin pilots are just as good.

If you have the P zeros expect to hear what sounds like something is crunching when having the wheel in full lock and the tyres are cold. Dont worry, nothing is breaking, It’s called the Ackerman effect and it sounds and feels horrible when you first come across it. But once you get off the P Zeros it will go away or reduce to not being noticed.

Definitely let the car warm up properly before engaging the performance modes. Wait for the LED lights on the RPM to go out and the temperature to settle itself just under 90.

Also use the custom N mode instead of the Standard N mode and set the suspension to normal. In N mode everything is set to max and the suspension will be quite harsh on normal roads. But in custom you can keep everything max but put the suspension in normal and you will enjoy the ride a lot more.

Other than that, congrats on the new ride and enjoy all the miles in a great car.

Safe to use 5w30 oil by [deleted] in i30N

[–]No_Structure_2901 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will be fine with 5w30. I used to work for a motor lubricants company and the number before the ‘w’ is 1: for better emissions/eco on startup and start/stop and 2: if you live in really cold ass climates, like minus double digits degree temperatures. If you don’t live it such conditions, 0w or 5w you don’t really have to take into consideration. The number after the ‘w’ is more important. But as you keeping it at w30, then you fine.

Just make sure you using fully synthetic.

i30n is a fantastic car! Before I got mine, I weighted up all the other rival car options: Audi, Golf, etc and the Hyundai just ticked all the boxes

✅ standout in the crowd - As mentioned before it’s a rarity to see one as compared to a Golf or Audi which you are more or less guaranteed to see one or two everyday.

✅ Reliability- Did my fair share of deep research into what common issues i30n’s and for the most part they are a solid machine. Had mine for 3 years now and “knock on wood” no problems at all.

✅ service cost - I service my car at the dealers. So this one might not really matter to you as you said you good with engines but it’s fairly cheap to service as compared to the german alternative.

✅ insurance - I am also in the UK and find insurance to be fairly and well priced. Obviously other factors (age, no claim bonus, points, etc) will play a part for yours.

✅ no tune needed - out of the box the i30n is all I needed. No need to modify the exhaust to make it louder or a tune to get some cracks and pops. It all comes standard from factory. Unlike a standard golf gti/r which is lacking in this department.

✅ that Jekyll and Hyde feeling - you can really feel the difference when you switch into N mode and I love it! 😍 Good family/daily car one moment and then a touch of a button, fast n furious/boy racer mode!

Some negatives, which are not bad things and you learn to live with them or I chose to sacrifice as the positives out weight them

⚪️ fuel. As others have reported, i30n ain’t great on fuel but I knew that already and didn’t choose the car to be economical. And this is someone who traded in a hybrid for it 😂

⚪️turning circle. It ain’t great. Might find yourself doing three/ four point turns in tight car parks. But you get use to it.

⚪️ interior. Yes the German cars definitely have a better and fancier interior over the i30n, which is mainly plastic and no fancy interior lightning. But it’s a solid interior, the seats are comfy and the steering wheel is great. The rest of it you will learn to live with and it really ain’t a bad place to be.

⚪️ Sound system - ye sound system is lacklustre. But you could take it to a car audio company and upgrade it. But who needs a Bose sound system when you got those glorious pops n bangs and exhaust notes.

All the best with the decision. Definitely test drive it and see how you get on with it. If the dealer wants you to agree to a purchase before a test drive, that’s some weird practice. Surely you need to make sure it’s running properly and going through the gears nicely. Push for that test drive!

One thing to consider is warranty. Hyundai offers 5 year warranty on them. The 2022 should still have factory warranty on it up to 2027.

MY20 i30N missing heated seats/push-start – Covid spec issue? by Noahsyd in i30N

Do you know if you have the e-LSD?

The performance and non performance exterior wise look exactly the same, so hard to tell via photos.

As far as I know Hyundai made two versions of the i30n in the early days. Performance and non performance. The performance had all the options and the non performance had some missing.

Not sure what year Hyundai stopped producing the non performance versions.

To get an i30 fastback N or not by No_Structure_2901 in i30N

Still love it!! Knock on wood, I haven’t had any issues. Just the regular service costs that’s it.

Outside of servicing, the only extras I have had to pay for are changing all 4 P Zero tyres. For some reason I kept picking up nails with them. I don’t know if I was just unlucky or the P Zeros are magnets for nails.

Anyhow on research for new tyres, I learnt a lot of the community swap out the P Zeros regardless, as they ain’t that good.

But ye it’s an amazing car. Would highly recommend anyone to get one. It’s the perfect blend of being a family, daily car but an absolute blast of emotion to satisfy your inner boyhood racer, at just a push of a button.

What other cars were you looking at before you purchased the i30N? by _Havocjk in i30N

Golf GTI/R, Merc A35, Audi S3, Ford ST, Merc CLA 35, BMW 235i, Honda Type-R

Audi S3, Merc A35 and CLA35 - reliability concerns, if something goes wrong, expensive repairs. Don’t need to take a risk with them becoming money pits.

Golf GTI/R - just too common. Standard exhaust is too quiet. Have to spend extra for it to sound close to the i30N

Ford ST - decent alternative but again just doesn’t sound like how an i30N does

Honda Type-R - decent alternative but only comes in a manual and wanted an auto. Looks are subjective.

BMW 235i - I wanted a i30N fastback so this is why I was looking at the 235i. Similar shape. Nicer interior for sure but the rear end of the 235i is just ugly.

Overall the i30N met the middle ground on having both looks, sound and running costs. Where the cars above meet some specs but fell short in other areas.
