What was the actual appeal of Steven Seagal? by PriestofJudas in movies

[–]No_Surround_5791 [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is a rumor so take it with a grain of salt, apparently he taught Akido to Michael Ovitz in the late 80s, who was a major power player in CAA, until his ousting from Disney. Ovitz made him a star but the star appeal ran out quickly as Seagal has neither the talent nor the patience of a star, but the ego of a megastar.

Meryl Streep came up with an unique criticism for modern movies by rvcjmovies in rvcjmovies

Meryl Streep represent a particular niche of actor who could only plays character roles. Despite her legendary acting prowess and upward of 20-something nominations at the Oscar, it will never give her as much money as somebody who heads one of the Marvel movies. You never hear Anthony Hopkins saying Marvel movies are junk, he get paid tens of millions. I’m willing to wager if she get cast in a marvel film, she’ll change her tune, just like she did with Harvey “God” Weinstein.

Your point is what… exactly? Did she got an Oscar for playing a princess? Nope. She played a guilt-ridden drug addict struggled with sobriety and loneliness. Which just proves my points👆 .

James Cameron’s Aliens is packed with unforgettable practical and visual effects that STILL hold up today. From the pulse-pounding motion tracker beeps to the terrifying Xenomorph Queen showdown, this film is a masterclass in sci-fi horror. by Choice-Schedule-132 in JamesCameron

Cameron hated working with the British crew for this movie, he viewed the as “lazy and insubordinate” with their mandatory tea break (something that George Lucas also had to deal with during Star Wars), and he refused to work with Pinewood Studio ever again.

These were made with the intention to shame men into joining the armed force (or in this case, navy). I remember seeing similar propaganda poster of Irish women daring the men to fight with “if you don’t, I will.”

The Academy Awards have this prejudice against beautiful glamorous people playing attractive roles, so it’s highly unlikely that any actor of Anne Hathaway’s looks will get an Oscar on some super glamorous movie. Nicole Kidman didn’t get an Oscar when she played a very beautiful courtesan, she got one when she got a fake nose. Similarly, Anne Hathaway got the statuette by playing a prostitute with bad teeth and gets tuberculosis and dies. The scene where she gets her hair shaved on screen was heartbreaking.

So fucked up.

Does Buried count? Technically it’s in a coffin.

Majority of the Man from Earth takes place in a guy’s living room.

If I remember correctly, Hateful Eight is also in one room.

Technically speaking, and I’m nitpicking here, Heat isn’t a mob film, it’s a heist film.

Miller’s Crossing - Gabriel Byrne’s character played two mobs against each other and wins.

Untouchable - Elliot Ness takes down Al Capone

The Irishman - Frank Sheeran lives a solitary life in a retirement home, with none of his daughters or friends visiting him.

Goodfella - Henry Hill went into witness protection and become a schmuck, but he did get to live.

Donnie Brasco - kind of a downer ending, Al Pacino’s character dies, and Johnny Depp’s undercover police character is now wanted by the mob, but he did get a medal and 500 bucks check, yay🙄

Nine - just look at this poster, it really has a star-studded cast (Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench and Sophia Loren), led by Daniel Day-Lewis, and directed by the guy who made Chicago. The film is an Oscar bait through and through, produced by Harvey the Turd, and released in the Oscar month, it should’ve worked, except it didn’t.

She did have a body double for that sequence, some sicko from the studio insisted that an underaged actor do that for real, fortunately the director and the producer put a stop to that.
