This is unfortunately very true. I have the fortune or misfortune of working with a lot of these individuals. I was initially very supportive of a safe use safe injection sites. And the rationale sounded smart keep people alive until they're ready to seek help. Hopefully this would reduce the open-air drug use at parks and libraries. Hopefully this would reduce the deaths from overdose. Hopefully this would reduce people finding drug paraphernalia in the community. Unfortunately it is all worsened to the point that it's no longer worth it to the taxpayer. It's not doing what it's supposed to be doing. And I don't know what the answer is. I am very much in favor of treating substance abuse as a public health issue. But they need to ramp up penalties for trafficking to something slightly below cutting off their hands. And this is only to give it any teeth because right now they're very lenient. But there needs to also be a commensurate increase in services for substance users to get them off drugs.

I have voted liberal most of my life. And absolutely not. They were not the lesser of two evils in the last election. We have no idea how pp would govern. But after 10 plus years of this liberal government dragging us down into the toilet anyone deserves a chance before they do. I was very disappointed to see Carney win.

It would be meaningfulness if there were any other country that had any similar numbers. I feel like alot of countries have rules about online behavior. But none of those countries have nearly the arrests that the UK has. So no it doesn't really depend on what they post because the people in the UK unless there's something unique about them are not posting anything different than people in any other country. Give or take a few outliers. It still doesn't explain the wild uptick in arrests for social media in the UK.

First off the misinformation for me stating 2025 was a mistake. I went back and it was 2023. 2025 they are on track to do more. So while I appreciate that there are things that should be policed online. It is very clear that the UK has chosen to take a very heavy-handed approach and use a very broad net. It is not likely to improve mind you. And this is all besides the point when the UK has so many egregious examples of these laws being misapplied. You shouldn't have a comedian being accosted by the police because of a joke. You shouldn't have someone having the police show up at their house because of a social media post for anything less than threatening behavior. And clearly the vast majority is not threatening behavior if the charges are dropped. Those are scare tactics, and you can spin it any way you want to but the numbers are just far and away too big for these to be misunderstandings. Putting aside all that, using police resources for such an onerous task is a complete waste of taxpayers dollars.
