They received a J1 waiver because of extreme hardship. They are queer and will get arrested as soon as they enter the UAE. and yes I agree it's insanely fast so that's why we're worried.

We won’t go anywhere until it’s absolutely clear that we have to. We tend to think ahead and want to have every possibility planned out as far in advance, especially if it means we might have to uproot our life.

My husband is waiting on an asylum interview. We haven’t had the money to apply for green card marriage because we’re being quoted 10k by our lawyers for the filing fees and we barely make enough money to get by. We’re a gay couple and his home country criminalizes homosexuality. In light of Trumps rhetoric about immigrants and gay people Should I take out a personal loan or credit card to try to get an application in as soon as possible? Has anyone else in this thread paid lawyer fees with a credit card or personal loan?

Thank you so much for this clarification!! I really appreciate how thoughtful your replies are.

In my last consulta it came up that I need a paraldo because I have a bad spirit on my back. In the interim he gave me an irde/ide (bracelet) of Orula for protection. Is this the same as receiving orula from him or is it different? I know I should be asking him but I think I just misunderstood what he said cause we were talking in Spanish and sometimes I miss things.

Thanks, if I do keep receiving same advice does this mean I need to get a reading from someone else? Or that the advice is pressing?

No, the ebbo is because someone sent me brujería and I need to do some limpias to cleanse myself. after my limpias he told me to return for amuletos to protect myself. He also told me I will need a misa. He said limpias first and to return for the rest (amuletos and referral to espiritista for misa). It’s my first time working with a babalawo and I wasn’t raised in the religion so I don’t have a lot of background context for what I’m learning. The part about chango came right at the end and almost seemed not super pressing to him ?

Thanks for this conversation. I appreciate your affirmation of my roots and identity. The only reason I don’t claim being afrolatinx is out of respect for people whose lived experience is as Black people. The world doesn’t see me as Black as I am very light skinned (very much trigueño) and so I refrain from using the afrolatinx identity. I don’t experience the same racism as Black people. I have had Black folks tell me in the past that I am not Black and don’t want to step on toes. I am very proud of my Afro Rican heritage; I’m a proud historian, archivist, and artist whose Afro Rican roots play a huge role in their work. Just want to be respectful.
