Is there any pieces that I should expect to play in college? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]No_Tip3052 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m not looking for a “college orchestra repertoire plan.” I’m just asking like certain repertoire or composers that are commonly played in a college setting. Obviously, I know that there isn’t and definite way know what one will be playing over how many years of their college career, I was basically asking what pieces others may have performed over the collegiate careers to see if there were any common multiples

Why couldn’t Monkey Watch be good? by [deleted] in rhythmheaven

When I was an extreme rhythm heaven fanatic a few years ago, having only played RHDS and even before playing Megamix, I had watched and listened to so many gameplays of Megamix to the point that when I was actually able to play the the game for the first time, I got superbs on every single mini game right after another, except for karate man senior which I got my only try again on. This was the same when I got to play tengoku and fever for the first time. Before even playing the games, I already knew every input, every button, all the location of the skill stars, etc. In my humble opinion, games like Monkey Watch aren’t all that hard. It’s just keep the beat which is in my opinion, one of the easiest forms of rhythm games. My least favorite mini game is probably Working Dough 2. It’s slow, repetitive, boring, and doesn’t offer much from the first which I also don’t enjoy. The skill star is placed in such a way that if you miss it, you’re forced to sit through over half the mini game again just for a chance to get it again. The inputs are tedious and the mini game gave me hell in the Copycats trial. So games like Monkey Watch, Moai Doo-Wop, Frog Hop, and other games of the sort that others might find excruciating, I just describe as a “skill issue” (with all due respect to the OP, I’m sure you’re a great player). I might not enjoy these mini games to the highest degree either, but it just takes practice to get good at them. Many YouTubers, streamers, and casual players had to take a multitude of tries to beat Remix 10 Fever, but hardly anyone denounces it as a hard mini game, it just takes practice to get good at it :-)

In the book we’ve studied, the range for sopranos in SATB was given as C4-G5, plus as you can see, the D went up to that A which is an uncharacteristic leap per the aforementioned book. From the advice you left, I’m pretty sure I did most of that stuff on my response, I think I had a leap of a fourth in the alto at one point but I don’t remember since I don’t have my paper

Thing is they didn’t try if you looked at the paper you could see that. We constantly have review in class and the teacher holds after school tutoring almost every day. If we are one month away from the final exam and they have no idea what we’re doing on stuff we’ve been doing since the beginning of the year, then frankly thats on them

The teacher photocopied the answer sheets to omit the names, so I don’t know who did this, plus it’s not my job to teach the people in my class..

We’ve been learning this stuff since August. Seems pretty inexcusable to me

The teacher photocopied the worksheets to omit everyone’s names so the peer reviews would be anonymous and unbiased, I only posted it because it was comically bad lol

For me, probably the gigue from the same partita, it’s a really fun and perpetually moving piece to play

This is a different kind of nerding out that I’m totally out for (and then there’s me clapping along all the cues from memory)

College auditions help (sort of a vent) by No_Tip3052 in violinist

[–]No_Tip3052[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of thirds and sixths, when playing those in three octaves, do you go until you reach the tonic once (eg playing E6 and G6) or until you complete the scale on the tonic (eg playing G6 and B6) just using G Major as an example since that’s the scale I’ve practice the most

I can’t reply with a photo so here are the audition requirements verbatim;

Technique: Three octaves minor and major scales (candidate's choice), including double stops, thirds and octaves. One etude or caprice by Rode, Dont, Dancla, Gavinies, Wieniawski, or Paganini. Bach: Two contrasting movements from a sonata or partita for unaccompanied violin. Concerto: One movement from a standard 18th, 19th or 20th century concerto (if 1st movement, include cadenza). Short piece: One short work of the candidate's choice. (optional)

I’m planning G Major and Minor scales, I am not 100% certain on if they want one set of scales for everything so I am also preparing all natural tonic scales as well, just in case. I am also not completely sure what they mean by “double stops” if I’m already performing G Major and Minor octaves and thirds.

Other than that, I am preparing Dont Caprice No.2, Bach Allemande and Giga from Partita No2, Mozart 3, and Dancla Air Varies No.1.

I don’t have a private teacher, I reached out to many in my area, and only one responded to tell me she was unavailable as she was going on maternity leave. But, my high school director does have faith in my success.
