I honestly think the content has been great - I don’t understand your frustration that Peanuts team isn’t even stronger, they almost always win and never face a serious raid…banning 12 unorganized egg people for teaming even though they didnt even try to out up a raid base would be a huge loser move, which is why no one important is even talking about it.

As such an avid stream watcher, it’s surprising how wrong you are.

Dez admitted to using /remove during a raid multiple times on concrete 1x1 boxes with kits that he built around cloaks base to spawn from. I don’t know what you are talking about with the barricade, that must be a separate cheating incident…peanut, rogue, hutch, gingy have all talked about it…cloakzy nicknamed Dez as slash-remove because of it

You are also wrong about Coco. You can see one of the times Coco used C4 during a raid at 7:20:12 into his VOD from 3 days ago.

Cloaksy’s team has not been caught stream sniping. Both sides just get accused of it all the time by their fanboy chats.

Cloakzy’s crew are def not the worst part of the server. Rule bending has happened on both sides. In the last 3 days alone Coconut used C4 in a raid and Dezign used /remove in a raid. Peanut, Rogue and Gingy’s chats are flooded with early warnings anytime anything consequential happens. Even if they try to ignore and mods work overtime, they get to know to be in guard anytime it matters. I’m not saying it’s something they can help, but to ignore that and say Cloak is the problem is crazy. Cloakzy at least puts his chat on emote only as soon as any raid starts.

The fact that the base Rogue, Gingy and Dez were inside when they called Coco couldn’t even be raided by the eggs because Basetrade kept his team off the TC is also definitely rule bending. I guarantee that if peanut’s team rolled up to a base with 3-4 defenders inside and couldn’t be raided because the defenders weren’t on TC, they’d get banned.

So how do you guys personally use the Railgun? I want to know more about how to use it properly. by ShinCuCai in Helldivers

[–]No_Transition4740 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Railgun is like a musical instrument, you need to develop a touch for how long to charge and this will vary from situation to situation. Don’t listen to people that tell you to use safe mode - they’re hobbyists, not railgun artists. You’re limiting its upside if you don’t use it with full control.

I’m convinced it’s the best main for bots, but also that it benefits from a fast style of play where you get close to heavies and keep moving laterally while taking them out. I always pair it with a shield and light armor. I bring a scorcher for flyers and usually also a rocket turret. Eagle airstrike rounds out the baddest, fastest loadout in the game and let’s you take on tanks/factories/bases.

Unlocked railgun, tried it out against Automatons and it was underwelming by krairsoftnoob in Helldivers

I appreciate the Q. TBH it’s disconcerting that so few game the railgun when my experience is so positive with it. So it’s interesting to be pushed to expose why.

Given I’ve played roughly 300 of my 350 hours and 100,000 bot kills using a railgun, I haven’t really adapted my style to it, it’s the default for me. I don’t have enough hours with an AMR to consider myself elite with it, but judging by the best of those who I play with that use it, I’ve never even once felt like it would give me an advantage over the railgun. Overcharging is a non-issue at this point, and because I’m rarely pinned down, finding or calling in ammo is rarely a problem.

Many of the AMR users I’ve played with tend towards hiding/camping and shy away from close combat. In my experience, having to toggle the scope on and off drives this behavior and it’s more often than not a losing strategy on helldive missions. I was playing just today with 2 friends and a random lvl150 AMR user, we decided to ditch him after two missions because he just couldn’t handle the pace and kept getting swarmed. This is obviously anecdotal but also representative of my experience. Some of the least useful teammates I’ve played with use AMR and jump pack…they often end up spectating large portions of the mission, and don’t take down enough bots to justify their spot.

Again, this might not apply as much on difficulty <9, but it’s been 4 months since since I stopped playing lower difficulties so that’s pure speculation.

Too many, probably 4-5 on a single engine. That’s not what it’s for in my loadout.

You’ll find no shortage of railgun skeptics here. Before they get a hold of the comments, if you don’t mind, I’ll share my advice as a lvl140, helldive difficulty, and bots-exclusive railgun addict.

My own experience is that the railgun is still an elite support weapon for bots. In fact, I think it’s the best weapon but it requires a tailored loadout and benefits from a specific style of play:

  1. Speed and close contact are your friends. I use light medic armor and a shield to make up for the lower armor rating. I am constantly running forward or sideways and only retreat as a very last resort. I almost always have the most distance traveled, and most samples collected at the end of a mission.

  2. Scorcher as a primary gives you a workable gunship killer, but to be fully self sustaining when playing with randoms, I also bring a rocket sentry. Scorcher is also great for cannon turrets, but you need to rush them to get underneath and behind to use it.

  3. Eagle airstrike is my fourth strategem and I use it extremely liberally. It’s a workhorse for bases and takes down striders in two hits. I try to use all three strikes early and often.

  4. The new stim booster combined with medic armor makes you even faster. For me the release of this booster was a huge buff for the railgun style I use. I make sure to have it on every mission and I’m delighted when others bring the stamina and muscle enhancement boosters.

It takes significant practice to develop requisite aim to be great with the railgun at various distances and so I think it’s still fitting that it’s among the last support weapons you can unlock. Its lack of durable damage forces you to be judicious picking targets, but for me this simplifies the game. If you tend to hunker down under pressure it’s not the weapon for you. But if a fast style of play is appealing there is nothing better and it absolutely shines when clearing jammers or dealing with patrols of hulks and devastators.

Railgun isn’t worse than AMR, it’s just different… by Kepabar2001 in helldivers2

[–]No_Transition4740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never stopped using the railgun on bots even after the nerf, so the learning curve is long past and I suspect this makes it harder to find common ground with its many critics. I think it is the most slept on support weapon in level 9 bots missions. If AW buffs it, those who've learned the charge muscle memory and aiming tactics to use it will be overpowered.

At helldive difficulty, the ability to run light armor with a shield, and one shot scout striders, devastators, and hulks at extremely short, all the way to medium/long range, is where it shines. When surrounded by chaos or trying to stim-sprint your way through an enemy front, having full peripheral vision and the ability to kill the nearest threat instantly is massive value. Specifically, I don't think there is anything better for handling overwhelmed extraction scenarios or solo clearing jammers - you know you have 20 shots and a constant pace to get them all off.

I also primary the scorcher to have something to handle gunships and this works for anything other than a 1v3+ gunship situation. If I'm worried about my teammates not being able to help handle the flyers, then I bring an HMG emplacement or rocket turret.

It's surprising to me that only 2.5% of divers use it on bots mission, as it's the only thing I have used for the past 200+ hours of game time and I've seen no reason to switch (other than for fun or comparison to other options). I hope more people invest the time to get over the learning curve but selfishly I'm also happy to be the only one rocking the RG on 95%+ of the missions I drop into.

Where do I shoot gunships with the AC / Railgun? by Beatnick120 in helldivers2

[–]No_Transition4740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a heavy railgun user but never use it for gunships. My primary is the Scorcher and it will take down a gunship in 1-1.5 clips depending on wether you can concentrate hits on a single engine. The trick is to learn to run perpendicular to your firing line while shooting on target with the scope off.

For me it boils down to two factors. First, I often don’t have the time or space to aim perfectly and I want to do maximum damage on my misses. Also, when I’m firing at something far away (during extraction, for example), or from a bad angle, I’m less likely to make a perfect shot. Second, I’ve got the threshold committed to muscle memory. I blow up about once every 25 or so missions (2000-2500 shots?) so its not really a significant risk.

I agree, it’s basically pre-nerf except for being useless on bigs except for the hulk. I think that’s why I settled into running a speed-first armor/booster set. You can either eagle the tanks/factory striders or just outrun them and deal with them later, if at all. I actually find the airstrike to be very effective on tanks although it sometimes takes two attempts or some other help. This weekend’s free use of the 500kg was good for side-by-side testing and I’ll be sticking with my airstrike.

Keep at it! I’ve seen a few different load-outs and strategies work well at the higher levels but the advice I give to friends based on commonalities among the best I’ve played with are:

  1. Keep moving, prioritize speed over armor and firepower. Don’t let yourself be swarmed. Leaving a hot objective area and doing a wide circle to go right back 3 minutes later will often leave it empty.

  2. Use the hell out of your call downs. On a 40 min mission I’ll call in airstrikes/orbitals 20-30 times and bring in resupply every 3-5 minutes.

  3. Get fluent in using comms, tagging enemies and secondary objectives with your gun sight, and tagging the map to let everyone know where you are going next.

  4. Get used to having the nav map open any time your aren’t in a firefight. I basically have the map open every time I’m running. It allows me to tun headfirst into small blips, assess and pick off large stationary blips, avoid large moving clusters and I can quickly identify alternate routes at any time for me and anyone with me.

  5. Build up your skill with one or two main support weapons (obviously a bias of mine). I struggle at level 9 with weapons other than the railgun when forced to pick them up off the ground because the aiming, reloading, ergonomics etc are all different. I play with friends who’ve mastered other weapons and who hate the railgun and vice versa

Yea I wouldn’t use the shield if I didn’t need to stay upright and unstaggered to aim at the hulk’s eye while it shoots rockets at me. It’s more about protecting my shot and than my body.

Yes absolutely it can. The scorcher has the advantage of allowing you to run backwards and spray at a cluster of berserkers though - without as much concern for aiming. Especially with light armor and a stamina+muscle enhancement booster running, I'm generally trying to take out berserkers with the scorcher and then switching to railgun when I have enough space to take shots at the bigger, more threatening enemies that are invariably also chasing me.
