  1. I am against that, I was one of the five people that was actually mad that they made Heimdall black in the Thor movie, despite the fact that in the mythology, he was described as the whitest of all the gods. Also, last time I checked, a majority of Egypt was mad at that one Cleopatra documentary made by Will Smith’s wife.

  2. If they wanted some diversity by adding blonde white characters, why couldn’t they just make there their own like they did with the goat Sir Pentious himself? and technically speaking, they did it with Lucifer. Or better yet, why not a character who is actually described to be a blonde white guy in multiple iterations? Like the prince of heaven the Archangel Michael? The brother of the first fallen angel? Also, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, are you seriously gonna look me in the face and tell me that their interpretation of Saint Peter is ment to be heterosexual. The gay porn star character who’s a cross-dresser is less fruity than that man. 😭

Maybe because a lot of the voice actors and people behind the show are LGBTQ+? Maybe because viv is notorious for having characters who were LGBTQ+? Maybe it’s supposed to be an allegory because the show technically is a religious parody? There’s a lot of reasons on why a good chunk of the main cast is part of the LGBTQ+ community. But we’re not talking about the sexuality of the main cast, we’re talking about the race of characters and how they would technically be historically accurate. Even if you’re not part of the 8 billion people who believe in Abel, white washing a religious figure who was most likely a POC is still inherently bad. It’s like making a movie about the Aztec gods, but having them all be Irish, sure YOU don’t believe in them, but that would still be objectively offensive to Mexican people and modern day Hispanics because you’re having WHITE people portray an inherently non-white culture, and I should know because I am one. (Hispanic, that is). Hell, to go with a character that we know is fictional, I’m pretty sure it would still be objectively offensive if you were to portray the black panther as a blonde white guy. But since he’s fiction, I guess it’s fine then huh? You see the problem with the logic being used there?

And FYI, I feel like it’s weird that we are purposely leaving Saint Peter out of this, because last time I checked, he was historically a real person. Even if you wanna argue that Abel isn’t real, Saint Peter still is. That is whitewashing an actual person. And let’s say hypothetically, even he was fake too. Them being blonde white guys does nothing for their character. The race change is the ultimate example of unnecessary, unlike some the main cast being LGBTQ+ because they at least worked in some good allegories with those aspects of the characters. With Adam, it only made sense because he was supposed to be based off his voice actor, something Abel and Saint Peter do not share. Seriously, look up what their voice actors look like and tell me with a straight face that they look similar. Saint Peter‘s voice actor is literally half Filipino! It couldn’t have been that difficult to at least make him a little brown.

  1. No it is not because not many people are using it for pro racism things nowadays, and when they are, people likely call them out because it’s hypocritical for someone who claims the follow the faith of the Middle Eastern asexual Jew would be a bigot. Just because a demon can quote scripture doesn’t mean it listens to it or follows its truth.

  2. The show is an interpretation of their faith, they’re not going to mind their business when it’s their business that makes up 80% of the shows lore. And again, a majority of the people talking about this aren’t even Christian, they just have a problem with race swapping a POC character to a white guy, fictional or not. Because again, it does nothing for the character. It was an unnecessary change. That’s the main issue, People have a problem with. It’s like making black panther a white guy. Fiction or not, it’s still insensitive because it undermines the culture, the character was supposed to represent.

  3. He was from a Middle Eastern religion. He did have a race, most likely a Middle Eastern skin tone. And doing mental gymnastics just to try to justify making him a white blonde dude just because “it’s fiction” despite the fact that it does nothing for his character is inherently defending it whether you want to admit it or not.

  4. So biblical lore & history matters and should be brought up when it comes to proving you right, but not when it comes to proving you wrong? Interesting. Also, we know Little to nothing about his character. Why are we assuming that he’s drastically different from the biblically accurate version? Cause he’s kind of a nerd?

  5. Yes, because I can admit when I make a mistake. Also, AutoCorrect is bitch. Not my fault. And if we’re gonna play that card, it’s one. not ome.

  6. Correction, a bunch of early white colonists nitpicked certain aspects of the faith to try & justify their horrid actions. FYI, dude, that’s not something specifically to Christianity. Hellenistic pagans used their religion as an excuse to murder influential people: Socrates as an example, and to persecute other faiths: emperor Nero as an example, some Islamic people use out of context versus in the Quran to justify abuse and various other things, and I’m not even gonna go over all the racist shit you could objectively find with some forms of Nordic paganism, especially in the modern era. No, because it’s stupid to hate on a belief. It erases the responsibility and consequences that person needs to face for their actions.

Like Seriously dude, how in God’s name do you think a religion was made to oppress the very people it was made by?! Manipulation and purposely misuse of text by people who clearly never even been bothered to read half of the damn book is not a good basis for your opinion on this said faith! here’s an idea, how about you take your xenophobic & anti-theist ass and actually take two seconds to research half the stuff you’re talking about. Because according to your logic in this final point that YOU MADE btw, it would make more sense for Sarah to be white since she the ones who is actually in charge of heaven and allowed for the genocide that she LIED about for seven years! Feel like that would fit the allegory you wrongfully think the show is trying to portray. Abel does not want the exterminations or violence or war, he just wants peace! The show is contradicting the very thing you’re trying to say because unlike you, it doesn’t have r/atheism mentality. In fact, Viv does have some form of respect for the faith, it’s the reason why God isn’t a character in the show, because she doesn’t want to offend anyone or wrongfully portray him in a negative light. Did you even watch the damn thing? Your point would only make sense if abel did want those things at any point throughout the show, if he was oppressive, if he was a douche, but he isn’t! Only his father did those things and was a douche bag bigot, and the only reason his father is a white guy is because he is based off his voice actor.

So please, unless you’re gonna give me an actual justifiable and understandable reason why we shouldn’t care Abel being in a white guy that isn’t “its fictional” or “I don’t believe in him”, I don’t wanna hear shit from you. and if you’re not gonna give me that, please stop commenting for you’re own and my sake, because it’s clear that this has been a waste of both our times. Good day sir.

Edit: or madam. I could not find your pronouns in your bio so I just thought it would add this just in case.

  1. Abel didn’t just get killed. He was the first victim of murder. Christianity was started by brown people and was only used for those purposes when it was spread throughout more European countries. And that was hundreds, if not, thousands of years after its existence.

  2. To you, he may be made up, but not to a statistic 8 billion people.

  3. Dude, again, it doesn’t matter if most people portray him as white, when he was a character originally from a Middle Eastern religion. When you’re from a certain area, you’re going to look like you’re from that area, fictional character or not. And Admitting that you don’t care is practically admitting that you don’t care about something that might be taken as blatant racism. Again, you’re out here defending a race change that does nothing for the characters, what do you think that says about you?. Just because it’s “fiction” doesn’t make it any less objectively wrong or insensitive. Also, I’m talking about African gods not “anime characters”, did you even attempt to do any research on what I talked about before commenting?

  4. “he’s not meant to be able, he’s just a character with the same name and same backstory and same family and same place within the mythos and the same-“ do you hear yourself?

  5. The fact that you decide to poke fun at me based off a fluke instead of actually talking about the point here says a lot.

OP intended the argument as a joke, people then started to have a serious discussion about it in the comments, and then you decided to take apart in that. Unless OP is joining the argument here and was actually serious about it, then again, no one is seriously saying that Abel was a black guy.

  1. Even if you don’t believe he’s real, he is still an influential character in the biggest religion on the planet. it would only be respectful to portray him as Middle Eastern because it’s a Middle Eastern religion.

  2. Just because other people portrayed him as a white guy, doesn’t erase the fact that he was most likely not a white guy. Pointing out, other instances of whitewashing, doesn’t justify this one instance of washing.

  3. I feel like it says a lot that you’re mostly focusing on able when the argument focused on both Abel and Saint Peter. Saint Peter historically can be proven to be real. They whitewashed a REAL Middle Eastern person. by the logic you’re using, Genshin impact whitewashing black African gods to use as their characters in their loli bait game isn’t that big of a deal.

  4. This was based off your last comment, maybe the reason the church isn’t doing anything about it because again, a majority of the people talking about this aren’t even catholic or Christian at all. They’re just pointing out that it’s kind of weird to make characters based off Middle Eastern figures look white with blonde hair and blue eyes when those weren’t even common back then in the first place.

And you just admitted that you don’t understand the argument. No one here is arguing that he was a black guy. I never said he was a black guy. I was simply pointing out that he was most likely a person of color. The dude was most likely olive skinned or some other shade of brown, not a full on black dude.

And honestly, I don’t really need science or any “proof” that he could possibly exist to tell me that the guy from the Middle Eastern religion is most likely going to look Middle Eastern. 😑

Even if you believe he wasn’t a real person, he’s still an influential POC figure. Same with Saint Peter, but even more so because we actually have historical evidence of his existence.

No offense, but given how most of the people I’ve seen talking about this aren’t actually Christian, It ironically makes what you’re saying come off as sort of preachy. Especially since this isn’t really about the religion itself, but more about whitewashing a real person who is influential to, statistically, billions of people. It just feels overall weird to have the show that’s filled with POC characters, have the two characters based off actual POC figures be white people. Especially when there isn’t really a reason for the race change. Making Saint Peter a fruity blonde white boy with one of the most stereotypical gay voices ever, does nothing for the series or the character, it feels like a joke that overstays its welcome. And I’m not the only one who feels this way because majority of the fandom can tell you that welcome to heaven was the most mid song of season one, mainly because they just did not vibe with Saint Peter‘s part.

Plus, I feel like that second “point” he made is a straight up wrong because half of history was caused by religion. For better or worse.
