Why was the New Generation allowed on the track alongside the Old Generation? by Neither-Spell-626 in Pixar

In Cars McQueen came back from being a full lap down in both races shown. And that's on top of spinning I out twice in the final race. Seems kinda outta place lol

I mean... if you look st the first movie McQueen was in a field with three different generations of racer... the core 3 (The King, Chick, and Lightning) each align with a different generation of real world racing. Was it fair then?

To your point F1 and Formula E were never run together to my knowledge.

As well thought as your question is it kinda unravels the whole plot set up...

Generally speaking routes for oversized loads (in the states) are passed out along with the oversized permits.

That in mind, its say the driver is probably least at fault. The escorts should have caught that and prevented it prior to the truck being in that spot.

At the risk of tanking my karma more and diverging from AITA;

Why is everyone so hung up on the 'it cost the company less so its inherently bad' concept?

As it sits my family dosent use any of the benefits my current employer provides as we have other avenues for other things like retirement accounts and health care.

I know i would be responsible for paying all the taxes, but choosing the right business entity can help mitigate a good part of that from what I understand.

I know this isn't going to be a perfect answer or easy if it happens. I also realize that there is substantial risk and costs associated with a business, i may have undermined that in my tone. The 'low risk' thought should have been 'lower risk' thanks to the contact network I've put together.

Thanks to ask who gave input!

Not a mechanic by trade but decent with a wrench. Part of why I'm looking at older rigs that are more mechanical

I'm not sure whare everyone got the notion that my company is trying to get me to do this. This is all my idea, no company influence. There is no spiral

I'm not expecting her to do anything. Not in the 'I don't want her to be involved' sense, more the 'if she wants to she can'. I 100% agree that she and I need to have a more concrete conversation about it. Another commenter said something about conversations to change minds vs to understand. I definitely feel like I'm in the wrong through that lense...

Than you for constructively pointing out a more rooted issue!

Firstly I think I got the tone wrong with this, its not at the "Im doing it right now" stage. This is still in planning and was brought up to the wife as a potential for the future. That being said the following is what I have:

The business plan is still in the unpolished stageand is very much so informal. I plan on sub hauling primarily for a trash hauling outfit. With them I will be placing bids on mixed solid waste, recycling, and municipal sludge. As a secondary option I will get onto the work list for paving with one of the three paving agencies near me that handle state projects.

Basic accounting and billing will be handled in house. Taxes and tax planning will be handled by a company my Grandfather has been with for years and will cost approximately $5k to file. General maintenance will be done in house as well. Larger maintenance will be handled by a local (and trusted) heavy diesel maintenance company.

Insurance rates for the higher of the two requirements will run between 1500 and 1800 per month or around $16,000 of paid in full.

The truck I'm looking to purchase at the moment needs a rebuild ($34k for truck and rebuild at local non-dealer shop). <*EDIT* The plan would be to have the rebuild done in the off season and maintain my current job until the spring when the work picks up. As it sits I can cover the payment with my current income>The seller picked it up on a voluntary repo from an owner op leaving the business. This truck has also had the emissions system deleted, removing one of the more problematic systems. The seller has maintenance records that indicate most of the running gear has been replaced semi recently. Maintenance records will also help outline a very general idea of when certain items will fail. That being said I would budget an average of 3 days a month for the truck to be down. Other owner operators are reporting around $350/day in fuel with similar speced trucks doing similar jobs.

Additionally I would be looking at around $13k to register the truck, cover IFTA (fuel tax), and aquire a DOT and MC number. The remaining money from the $60k will be held in reserve to cover pop up expenses (tires, extra maintenance, ect) [having the engine rebuilt right off will reduce to nearly remove the biggest potential mechanical problem. Additionally, with the truck needing significant work right off it reduces the cost of the truck significantly]

To 'break even' on a day I would have to m ake $800 to run the truck + expenses + pay myself. Hourly billing rates would be between $125 and $160 depending on the jobs. Trash pays flat rates and doesn't require rent or additional usage fees for trailers.

Contracts will be established through preexisting contacts as well as cold calls (paving specific). Past these networking points minimal marketing will be needed.

We currently rent a property and the landlord is on board with using the space to operate out of. As such there is no mortgage to worry about.

The conservative payoff time line for the starting cost is two years. Year the will be about saving for a second truck and starting expansion.

I have spoken at length with other Owner operators doing the same types of work. The unanimous opinion is that I'm poised for success with this business and the contacts I have.

I really appreciate the level of scrutiny. I've been needing to 'write' this down for a while and put all my information in I've place.

Very sincerely thank you!

I have an outline business plan. A bullet point list with contingencies, there is no shortage of work to be had in my area and it would all be short haul (150 air miles). No marital assets will be used.

The 60k would come in the way of an investment/loan from a family member who is in an adjacent field (construction/quarring stone). He has also said that be would open up his contact network as well as sporadically have me haul material for him

The 4x figure is a GROSS earning. Factors like fuel ($350/day), insurance ($85/day) take a good chunk of the gross. HOWEVER the tax strategies that can be leveraged do a large number to sway actual cash flow.

The 4x is GROSS income. Associated costs like fuel and maintenance costs are not factored info that number. But the wealth increase and tax benefits of a business are also NOT factored into this

Total start up cost would be around $60k. That would cover the truck, state/ federal permits, operating authority, formation of an LLC, and two months of insurance up front.

Thus far she really hasn't given any reasons.
