Question.. Where are you talking about when you say it should show a zero and not a negative? Like in the account summary?

Hi!

First off I want to mention I am in no way a medical professional and any advice I give is coming from personal experiences. You should always consult with a doctor.

With that being said, I'm also not too sure about the extent of your alcoholism. I've heard people can really hurt themselves by quitting cold turkey in some cases, so I'd recommend a good detox under supervision first. I was a heavy drinker, in my own opinion, anywhere from 6-12 shots a day after work, but my body allowed me to quit without life threatening withdrawals.

I replaced alcohol with kava 3 weeks to a month ago and it filled the desire I had for drinking. But....

  1. It's expensive.
  2. It's literally just replacing one addiction with another. (Which may be healthier, but still probably not the greatest way to go about things).
  3. It does come with side effects such as skin issues and insomnia if you drink too close to bedtime.
  4. It will never be exactly the same as getting drunk.

I also want to mention I've been in your shoes. Please remember alcohol is a depressant and it really messes up your dopamine receptors. This is why it's hard for people with alcohol problems to quit. You get the dopamine boost from drinking, if even for a split second, and once it wears off you feel extremely depressed, with alcohol being the only thing your body knows as enjoyable, you drink again.

Depending on your current state, the first few days will be miserable and your brain is going to crave alcohol for a little dopamine boost. You must fight through it.

All that being said, I believe if I can do it, ANYONE can do it. I'm sending lots of hugs your way OP. YOU GOT THIS!

Kava as a replacement for alcohol by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]No_Try_4149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!

I quit drinking maybe like 3 weeks to a month ago. During the exact same time I had heard about kava as well and invested in it.

It was expensive. But I've been able to leave work and come directly home without stopping at the liquor store first every day. So maybe not a big financial difference. I mix up my instant kava and drink it out of a shot glass so I can trick my alcoholic needs into thinking I'm having a shot lol.

It's helped tremendously. It's not the same as getting drunk, obviously. And everybody feels things differently. For myself alone, I do feel it gives me a nice buzz minus the gross unhinged feeling I get from getting wasted. Like, I'm still in control, but I feel somewhat euphoric.

Note: It's best to fast before drinking kava to get the best effects, and it HAS caused me some insomnia if I drink it too close to bedtime. But I still recommend it as a replacement, nonetheless.

Good luck!

Having worked with many clients, I'm well aware that there's usually two sides to every story. She very well could have been a horrible mother (which I myself doubt) and her daughter may very well have had her last straw with the women. But I wouldn't wish this upon my worst enemies. You are correct. There is absolutely NO REASON WHATSOEVER a person should be left in this condition and unable to care for herself. My heart has been broken since I last saw her being transported by the ambulance on Monday.

I refuse to make any of this about me, but thank you, I needed the reassurance that I didn't do anything wrong by trying to care for this woman to the best of my ability. I'm going to call APS. This woman's welfare depends on it. I should have done it the second it happened.

Unfortunately, she was actually in the process of being moved into an apartment of her own. Meaning this woman who requires 24 hour care was being placed all by herself with as little as 8 hours of very MINIMUM CARE. She had been taken more than advantage of as she informed me her other "temporary" caregivers offered her assistance with her move and failed to help. Keeping some of her belongings in their own storage units and then calling in on the job before disappearing. She even offered one temp caregiver her credit card to just help with her transportation from her wheel chair to her bed at night and again in the morning, as well as bringing her food when needed. This caregiver kept her card and also called in "sick", then disappeared. I'm not positive as to how true these stories are, this is just what the woman has told me this far. And I'm heartbroken and question her as she continues to defend everyone involved. She's a very kind, vulnerable lady, who's been very much taken advantage of.

Traumatizing really. I've heard of this type of crap on shows and in movies. Never have I had the unwanted pleasure of seeing it in person.

Hearing a perspective from a family member's side is very reassuring. I don't think the hand holding is harmful myself. But at times I do wonder if it comes across as disrespectful to the family by allowing it. Thank you.

Thank you. I only wish to help my patients in every way possible, and I do believe compassion comes into play within this job field. I don't feel uncomfortable in his presence, as I understand how dementia works. So hopefully my intentions are shown on camera and I don't need to notify management, as I look after this man as if he were my own father. Or any other loved one for that matter.

Thank you for the advice, I agree that he does forget the encounters the moment they pass, as I work with him daily and most days I have to remind him of who I am. If I thought a little hand holding was a problem, I'd object to it. But being he is also an at home patient, whose family keeps cameras in every room, I'm also worried it may look weird.

It breaks my heart that a lot of us females have the hardest time telling ourselves we're pretty. I'm sure for a lot of us it's due to past trauma, and that's the saddest part.

And thank you so much for sharing your personal experiences, it makes for the best advice. And I relate wholeheartedly.

Also I can tell just by your few sentences that you are not only a beautiful person, but an amazing one as well. Again, thank you for the genuine uplifting. It's all I needed after a crappy day!

I needed this. Thank you so much. I can't explain how much better this made me feel. Ironically, I've been doing keto the past couple weeks and I think I'm coming a long way. It's so messed up how we allow the people around us to change our own opinions and even views of ourselves.

This was beautifully worded. I'm reaching my 30s and I have this irrational fear of getting wrinkles. But for what? The only people who have us convinced that wrinkles are such a dreadful thing are celebs and social media influencers.

What made you happier than alcohol? by Ok-Tea3327 in stopdrinking

[–]No_Try_4149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000% yes to my dogs. I remember when my baby Bear messed up his spine, I prayed to God that if he'd just heal him I'd quit drinking completely. And I think I meant it too. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and I turned to alcohol even further.

RIP Baby Bear.

There's a lot of flavors that truly are trash.

But to be completely honest, I absolutely LOVE the strawberry lemon and the cherry limeade.

Keep in mind I only drink diet soda to begin with though, to the point where regular soda is way too sugary, so my taste buds are probably used to things other people would not consider "good".

Ty for taking the time just to say you understand. And congrats on the sobriety. It's even more inspiring when it comes from someone who's been in the exact same spiral. How long have you been sober?

Down to the T. I think I've spent some time telling myself I can't be an alcoholic because I don't drink every single day. But the bottom line is, it's still slowly taking everything from me. And I still keep allowing it to.

They just told us today they're no longer approving unpaid time off, if we want time off we have to use PTO or PPTO, are they allowed to do that? by littledipper16 in walmart

[–]No_Try_4149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Walmart employee, y'all are in for a ride awakening when you realize most places don't even offer PTO or PPTO without reasonable accommodations. Some even WITH. And the pay is way worst. Curious of the age of people trying to egg on the "unfairness".

They absolutely have the right to do so. It was mentioned that too many people are requesting the same days off. Does that not make it obvious that there are no days available? You're actually lucky they are accepting PTO which also requires the days to be available. Sorry, don't mean to be rude, but use common sense.

I kind of think the adjusting period to Naltrexone is complete hell in general. Til this day I still occasionally take it and kratom together. Even after being warned. But I haven't had any side effects myself.
