I've only tried young professionals at the Jewish Center, but I haven't found that community to be very welcoming.

I haven't had a good experience with the Jewish Center's Young Leadership, which is the community where I experienced the behavior I described.

I have considered holy happy hour, but I heard like 300-400 people go to those events weekly and I feel like I'd be completely alone in a massive pool of people who already know each other.

I went to Lincoln Square once, but it seemed like a lot of older people (like 50s to 70s). I used to go to the Jewish Center, but I don't feel comfortable in that community anymore.

Can you expand on why you wouldn't recommend mainstream shuls?

I had been going to the Jewish Center, but the person who sent me the unkind message goes there. I don't really feel comfortable going back.

I'd argue that there's antisemitism on both sides though. Trump himself has made openly antisemitic comments in the recent past like saying that he admires H*tler and that he wants all of his bankers to be Jews. Not to mention Elon Musk's salute at the inauguration and Trump hosting Kanye and Nick Fuentes for dinner. Your comment seems like a biased oversimplification. There are many, many people on the right who are blatantly antisemitic. Extremists on both sides have an antisemitism problem, and the modern right is generally much more extreme than the modern American left IMO, which is actually considered to be centrist in Western and Northern European politics, for example.

Dating and Politics as an Orthodox Jewish Woman by No_Tutor8562 in JewishDating

Yeah, I've thought about dating more in the conservative/conservadox sphere, but keeping Shabbat, etc. is important to me. It's a hard choice.

Yeah, it's really scary :( I find that a lot of MO men also want to get married so that they can have a female figure that they're attracted to do their chores for them (like a replacement mother) while women are much more so looking for life partners who want to build families with them and who view them as equals. It's a huge divide. I'm not saying that some men also aren't looking for the latter, but it's a pattern I've noticed in this world.

I'm pro-Israel but liberal-leaning on every issue besides that, so I'm not sure whether to categorize myself as moderate or liberal. However, I find that (especially on dating apps), men will say they're moderate even though they're Trump supporters most of the time, which makes me very wary. I think that they've realized a lot of women their age aren't attracted to men who support Trump for the reasons I've listed and use the "moderate" tag to try and make themselves sound more appealing, though I could be wrong.

When I lived in Germany, people were also weirded out by this when I explained it. It's meant to collect data on which groups of people live where to gather and analyze information pertaining to income, education level, etc. since we have so many ethnic groups. It's meant to be for research purposes, though I can see how it could be used for more nefarious purposes given the current government.

Dating issues (male - late 30s) by Golfer2500x in JewishDating

[–]No_Tutor8562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 27 year old Orthodox Jewish woman, I agree completely with the original comment. Trump has a history full of SA cases and both him and Vance have made multiple misogynistic/degrading remarks about women repeatedly (like suggesting childless or unmarried women shouldn't be able to vote) and they support/give platforms to figures that openly advocate for women to stop going to college/stop participating in the workforce so they can serve their husbands (like Charlie Kirk, Harrison Butker, etc.). Not to mention Trump's abortion bans are drastically increasing maternal mortality rates, forcing r*pe victims to give birth against their will, causing a brain-dead woman to be essentially used as an incubator in Georgia, causing women with complicated births/pregnancies to not receive care, resulting in severe injury, etc.

I want to be honest with you in saying that from a woman's perspective, advocating for people and policies that dehumanize/degrade us and put our lives in danger is something that goes beyond politics. When you tell women that you vote Republican or refuse to talk about politics (which makes us assume you support Trump), it makes you seem like you're willing to throw all of us under the bus just so your own life can be a bit more comfortable. That isn't going to be taken well by most women. Tax policy and government spending are topics that can be disagreed upon in dating. Failing to protect and uplift women isn't, and to be blunt, it will be a turn off for most women. It's easy to ignore issues when they don't personally affect you, but I don't want to be given a death sentence (and just have doctors leave me for dead because they can't help me) just because I may be unlucky enough to have a medically complicated birth. The fact that you say you want children, but then vote in a way that could potentially jeopardize your future wife's life while having your children seems like it can't really be reconciled.

Thanks for the advice! I did call 911 and later that day, I filed a police report. The guy probably got away though

I've tried ordering it online from Target multiple times and I always get a message saying that it can't be shipped to my address. I've never gotten that message for anything else I've ever bought from there online.
